I've just switched to Telecom's Business Intermediate plan from Adventure and noticed that the results from http://www.pingtest.net/ are now in the low 20's when they have usually been about 65ms in the past. I haven't run a test for a few weeks though so don't know if there were any other improvements recently that could have accounted for this result. Has anyone else noticed similar improvements on their existing plan? Or when changing plans from residential to business? We are in rural Northland on a Conklin so maximum speed is still about 1.5Mbps but I still appreciate the lower latency.

Telecom business plans have interleaving off by default, domestic plans dont, interleaving has around 30mS ping increase.

Yup, definitely sounds like the difference between interleaving being on and off. I think it's off by default on their business plans anyway.

I noticed a similar thing going from an Adventure plan to the Pro plan, where it's off by default. My pings dropped from early 40s to the low teens.

Why would they have it turned off on business plans when it's supposed to make the connection more reliable?

I think you will find there is a minimum line performance associated with business connection acceptance.

By and large with the roll out of the FTTN network DSL line stability is at such a level that to turn interleaving off on lines under 2km not going to be an issue. Rather than in the old days where a majority of lines were well over that so turning it on by default made more sense.
