ALTRON: When is big time supposed to end as Im still on it.
Just started a new month of bigtime usage today.

I think they are having a very hard time coming up with decent alternatives, thus why no action yet. Just enjoy it whilst you have it. They will send a letter before cutting you off/moving you to another plan.

If their plan was to quiet the dissenters it seems to have worked anyway. Wink

So they are actually trying to appease the many thousands of high users that will likely walk if they can't get something reasonable in it's place?

Thats sounds promising

They are still on target according to their statement of 20/05/2010:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/3716861/Vampires-thwart-Telecom-all-you-can-eat-plan

"Telecom will stop signing up Big Time customers today and will contact people who are on the plan over the next two months, to move them on to other plans."

If we all stay quiet and do not rock the boat too much we might be in luck.

Nah, I am just kidding. Telecom will 'surprise' us all the coming weeks and then it is over as from August 1. Just when the world is becoming more increasingly connected we  in New Zealand are slammed with increased prices. They need to increase profitability in order to remain paying themselves fat bonuses now that their share options are worthless (the latter mainly due to their own incapacity btw)

With Telecom you can never win as customer. Oh yes they give you a sweetener occasionally to mum you but for the serious stuff they think first of themselves and share holders. In all honesty at Telecom they hate residential customers: they cost a lot, bring in little to nothing and want the most. They rather have businesses who do big deal with them and do not nag about prices as much as 'residentials' do.

I wish I could let that go but I can't...

I work at Telecom and we don't "hate residential customers" at all. Personally I spend a lot of time working to identify and help resolve issues that affect large numbers of residential customers.

I love residential customers but I don't expect Telecom (or ANY OTHER SUPPLIER) to provide service at a loss, or at cost price. It's in everyone's best interest for services to be sustainably priced.

Cheers - N

@N
To a degree I can agree with you. And yes of course nothing needs to be sold at a loss. My personal experience is that at Telecom one rather sees one professional customer than 25 residential.

Residential customers act emotionally whilst businesses approach things from a rational point of view. This is also the case with the Big Time plan. Businesses tends to take increases in stride whilst the home user is up in arms. Add to this a remark from your Ralph Brayham like vampires and you 'have a party'.

Telecom cut its fingers now twice with a residential plan and who has to carry the burden for that: the residential user. If the team of the earlier mentioned gentleman had done their home work Telecom would have never ended up in this whole situation. Only they were not willing to listen to outsiders who came up with well meant advice. no, these recommendations were returned with the label 'stop interfering, we know best what we do' (can show you the mail to this extend).

BTW there is a way out for Telecom and the Big Time plan only it requires lobbying at the Beehive. My guess is that one is not keen to do that as it would require human resources and those are occupied with other matters. It is a clear case of Telecom rather choosing the easy way out even tough it is short term. Long term thinking has never been a strong case.

Finally sorry in case I offended you with my general remark. It was no harm intended.

Well, I cannot tell you how angry at Telecom I am right now...

I got 'the letter' today telling me the plan is being discontinued. In addition, there were NO new plans offered but they 'suggested' I move to the Adventure plan. Not that I have much choice, in fact they are going to move me to it automatically by 8 Oct 2010.

So much for pushing all this great new online content (TVNZ on demand etc etc etc)...what's the point when you will blow your cap in the first week of the month?

Add this to the list along with the rise in GST and the ETS and wow, we have a trifecta folks! LOL. Sad indeed.

So much for Telecom being proactive on this matter. Business as usual I guess.

I guess I will be FORCED to look at other ISP offerings in earnest now. Bummer.

That's interesting, as a few people on GP were recommended to switch to Pro.

GP = GamePlanet.  They have forums also with a much longer thread on this issue I believe.

It is sad there are no other plans offered.  We should make a wall of fail and put Telecom on it.

I think I'll be moving back to Actrix.  At least they held up their end of the deal.

Yeah and while they are knocking us all back to PRO and charging us $20 more for the trouble, they are signing up new customers on a Double Data deal which makes PRO 80 gig for 6 months for them.

Why can't they do the same for us bigtime users as we are being forced to move, we didn't ask to move ??
I'm sure that would appease a few if they offered double data with the move for 6 months !

Just watching the advert on TV for double data, shakes head, very unfair..

That is complete crap IMHO. I wonder if we ring them if they'll do the same deal for us who are being forced to switch??? FAIL Telecom.

I have to admit I was SHOCKED that the letter did not offer a 'sweetener' of some kind to stay with them. This is what you get with a monopoly.

You would think one of the guys in the board room that makes up these things would say to the rest:

"Well jeepers guys, why don't we offer this to our whole customer base so we can get more people on Pro?"

Or

"Lets keep BigTime customers on our network by offering this deal to them aswell!"

When I went to the Telecom website and visited their change plan link that they provided in the letter I got this message:

Pro credit offer: As Pro is $20 more than you're currently paying, if you move to Pro by the 13th of August 2010 we'll give you a $20 credit each month for three months

Why not also offer the double data deal like new customers get? It's backwards logic to screw the customers you already have in favour of new customers. Sometimes I just can't figure out Telecom's logic??? It's like they WANT to fail or something. Is there a culture of mediocrity within Telecom or what? Does one hand (technical) not know what the other is doing (managerial and sales/marketing)??? Maybe it's just a sense of entitlement they have, I am just not sure???
