I am aware that the Big Time plan was/is going to be removed, however we have been using our internet as we normally do and have just got an email from Telecom to say we are 80% through our plan........ I checked our usage online and they have got us on the Pro 40GB plan???? I had no idea that they had already switched us, like the title says has the Big Time plan already been removed?

In the letter I received from Telecom about BigTime's demise it mentioned that if I didn't respond, I would be swapped to Pro automatically.

Just a heads up from anyone else who finds themselves on this plan unawares.

Yes found out that they put us on pro 6 days ago however because our plan doesn't renew until the 26 of July we get 40GBs on Pro for 10 days and then it starts again. Which is good so we won't rack up a huge bill for the month.

How does one get conned into swapping the plan? To change they would have to have authority on the account, unless it was on the automatic change-over date.

The letter sends you to a site, where you can change your plan online.  It also provides the Telecom account number, all you need to know is the landline number the broadband plan is on.

you get switched over one day before your next billing period which means some one whos internet "month" started on the later days of this month will keep it for longer am i right?

lol doesnt matter just thinking

It looks like what they will do is switch you over to the Pro plan on August 13 and then when your billing month ends they will restart the month, so the 40GB cap will start again. So if your month finishes on August 20 you will have the pro plan for 7 days and then it will start again for the new month.

don't you also need a password?

when I changed my BB plan a few months ago I had to log in to my account and put in the password

ETA: isn't the letter adressed to the person with account authority anyway, so a more important question might be "why are your flatmates opening and reading your mail?"

I must admit I was away when the letters were drafted and sent but thought this sounded a little odd so I had a look through the various copies and can't see one that says anyone would be automatically moved to Pro, there are several versions that recommend Pro but every single version I've seen goes on to say that you would be automatically moved to Adventure if no action is taken (have confirmed this, no letter sent says anyone will be moved to Pro, all auto-migration will be to Adventure).  If you have a letter that states you will be moved to Pro and not Adventure I'd be very interested in seeing it!

My letter says that I am recommended Pro, but will be moved to Adventure if I do not respond by 13th August 2010.

Unfortunately, because I use my broadband for a range of online and Cloud-based services, Telecom does not currently offer a plan that meets my requirements. I specifically need a plan which either offers an intelligent way of managing application usage (or in a coarse way, Throttle on Cap), so that I am not paying a premium for "all I can eat" usage when it is only one or two applications which will be consuming network resource (specifically Google (Apps and YouTube), Amazon (Storage), corporate IP VPN (tunneling Exchange and Collaboration tools), iTunes and Steam.

If Telecom offered either Throttle on Cap for Pro, or a rolling Data Cap add-on, then I'd be happy to stay. However, I can't expose myself or my employer to unconstrained charges of $2 per GB which may be consumed by a wide range of automated and background (i.e. non user-initiated) applications.

Eek I think I've thrown the letter out, if not, I'll send you through a copy.

I'm pretty sure it had Pro for our default, we do use a lot of internet so I wasn't really too worried.

Being able to change the account online, without having to talk to a CSR was a great time saver.

This is a bit worrying. I received the letter last week. It says I'll be compensated 20$ each month for 3 months if I switch to Pro before 13 August; and if I don't do anything before then I'll be moved to Adventure by 8 October. I thought it meant I could choose to remain on Big Time till 8 October? Am I mistaken?
