Nuxiz: This is a bit worrying. I received the letter last week. It says I'll be compensated 20$ each month for 3 months if I switch to Pro before 13 August; and if I don't do anything before then I'll be moved to Adventure by 8 October. I thought it meant I could choose to remain on Big Time till 8 October? Am I mistaken?

that's what i have said all all along .....there's no bill date written in it ...i don't know why people are getting moved now ?????

did it say "moved to adventure by the 8th of October"  or "moved to Adventure on the 8th October"

If it said "on"  then they should have moved you on that date and not before.
If it said "by"  then it means they might move you any day up to the 8th i.e. they could move you on the 7th, the 6th, the 5th, the 4th etc etc etc

are they?  the OP's second post says that it was a flatmate who swapped plans over, not telecom doing it without his knowledge.

It says by 8 October. I just naively assumed Telecom would have the courtesy of specifying the exact date I'll be moved off big time. My next billing date starts on 3 August. Assuming I'll be moved to Adventure on 14 August and I don't change to Pro before then, I will definitely have exceeded 20G and get stuck with the abysmal dialup speed until 3 September. Thanks Telecom for being straight with your customers.

Just got back from overseas and had a look at the letter.

It recommends pro but says if we don't action a change before the 13th August we will be moved to Adventure by the 8th October.

Q: Does moving to another plan either by choice before the 13th August or automatically by default start a new contract term or not?

Also if you consider the $20 credit for 3 months if you choose a plan before the 13th August works out at 30GB data (at $2/GB) so imo it's worth ignoring that date and staying on Big Time as long as possible.

Fairly lacklustre incentives Telecom have come up with, no new plans no higher data cap plans (60GB, 80GB, 100GB) just a weak credit and $2/GB overage on Pro (which it what is should have been for the last 2-3 years anyway).

Nothing innovative here at all... no data banking, off peak system, no un-metered content sites/zones, no steam content mirror....

I guess I will be taking a look at the other options and weighing whether to stay with Telecom.

data gets reset when your plan change happens.  i.e. if you use 200Gb of data on Big Time between 3rd and 14th of august, then if they switch you to adventure on the 14th your counter gets reset and you start from zero for the rest of that month.

Assuming of course they actually switch you on 14th of august.  Since the letter says 'by the 8th of October" indicating a range of possible dates rather than specifically 14th August I think it more likley they will simply switch you on the following billing date (3rd September in your case)

The contract is for Telecom Broadband, not the plan. If you choose to change plans your contract will continue as normal.

The letter signified the termination of Big Time, it was not an announcement of new plans

I think that's his point. People expected Telecom to offer something better than Pro, but they didnt.

Hi Lias
Yes, I can see that. I think as users talked of their hope, it became their expectation

Thanks for clarifying, that's what I expected.

We've been very happy with the level of service and performance Telecom have been delivering, we will strongly considering staying however the lack of plan innovation currently is disappointing imo.

So if I don't leave before I'm kicked off the plan, I'll be charged a termination fee if I do switch providers?

I too was unsure about this, on a technicality you would msot likely waive rights to breaking contract if you accept the offer to continue on suggested plan. I signed up for 24mth contract to get my free wireless modem earlier this year so I have taken the opportunity to break contract so the whole big time sage has been a bit of a win/lose scenario for me  :P

We switched to Pro because of the $20 compensation each month for 3 months. 3 months should be long enough for us to find a new ISP. No way are we giving Telecom our custom after doing this.

If that's the case there's no way I'll be sticking with Telecom. If I leave, I'll be up ~$50 (+60GB/mth if I join Orcon) because I'll have to cancel when my lease expires.

doozy: If you have a letter that states you will be moved to Pro and not Adventure I'd be very interested in seeing it!

Sorry for the delay doozy (PM me and I'll email you the original PDF):
