Guh!! Just found out that as I am a TiVo customer, they wouldn't have been recording my data usage anyway regardless of my plan.

I have been suffering the sometimes painfully slow speeds of Big Time for the last 8-9 months when i could have been enjoying glorious FS/FS.

Wait .. let me get this right.. If I pay to become a tivo customer, I can leech as much as I want, on full speed, without paying any data charges?

Sounds too good to be true.. The website says TIVO traffic doesnt alter your cap, but I wonder how they differentiate.

I'd actually think about sticking with Telecom on a Pro plan if this is the case.

Oh telecom posters, wherefor art thou!

Telecom always marketed TiVo as not taking data usage of your monthly cap. Do you think you could get the proxy settings or something to get free net on any other device?

It's supposed to be Tivo traffic doesn't count towards your data cap, not all traffic doesn't.

Pretty funny, Telecom have had a bad run with traffic accounting issues/errors in the last year or so.

Really, shooting myself in the foot, I don't think so, considering there is an existing thread about this that has been here for months and it was Telecom's customer service who told me about data not being recorded, so obviously Telecom are totally aware of it. A few posts appearing in a forum isn't going to set off any alarms. Stop pretending like you have found some kind of secret free-beer tap on the back wall of a brewery.
I only made a post in an existing thread about how annoying it was that I didn't even realise this was happening.

Edit: and why post twice having a go at me saying the same thing in two different ways?

So you could go on Total Home Starter (with no addons) and as long as you've bought a Tivo from Telecom you in practice get unlimited that is not heavily managed (like normal plans and unlike Big Time) adsl for $70/month!

Sure there is the one off cost to buy the Tivo ($718), or you pay that monthly rate (~$20/month for 36 months) but you get the Tivo out of that.

This can't be intentional or last surely, given that they are shutting down Big Time for being not economically viable.

Or until they fix the problem which could be tommorrow or the next day or it could be next month ???
But you will have already bought a TiVo so TiVo sales will go up !
And you will locked into a total home contract again...

I wondered yesterday if it was actually the TiVo unmetered situation that prompted the big Time shut down as a way to manage it. But as most TiVo owners [also on Telecom broadband] probably don't even realise they are not being recorded and just wait for the 80% usage email rather than actually checking online, they are in all likeliness using their broadband economically as normal to avoid hitting their usage cap. I assumed my usage meter was stuck on 1MB for 8 moinths because I was on an uncapped plan.

With TiVo now non-exclusive to Telecom, they will possibly address the issue soon [as Cafeg suggested] or simply keep the status quo for their own customers who purchased it through them, Possibly they haven't got any effective or reliable way to differentiate between TiVo BB usage and general usage and so to prevent people not using CASPA in fear of spunking their allowance, they simply don't worry about it.

We shall see.
