I hear that drop.io has been sold to facebook and is slowly winding down. What does that mean for the drop.io attachment service in Yahoo!Xtra email? It is very useful for sending large attachments. The drop.io website says -

Other drop.io services like Presslift, our Yahoo! Mail Application, and our APIs will stay online for a longer period before the company winds down. We’ll announce more details on that soon. However, starting immediately, we’ll no longer be selling new premium accounts for those services.

Any idea what's happening yet?

*bump*

As of today I no longer see the drop.io service in my application list when using the online Yahoo!Xtra email.

Can others confirm that the service is no longer available?
What will it be replaced with?

Hey - I've passed this onto our Broadband product team. As soon as I have a response I'll let you know.

Thanks.

I see that the service does not seem to be available any more, and it's a bit of a bummer.
I just tried to send a 34MB file to a client and Xtra itself only allows attachments of up to 25MB, so i had to upload the file to hotfile.com which is not very professional looking.

It was good to have drop.io incorporated right into the online email client as it was quick to access and use.

You can try https://www.yousendit.com, just beware you will want to unsubscribe to their infinite number of emails trying to get you to use the paid version, every few days.

So yes Drop IO has been purchased in whole by facebook. Drip IO has been withdrawn from Yahoo Mail apps worldwide.

Yahoo are currently working with a cendor to replace this useful app on their mail service. This will be appearing in the Apps Gallery sometime in the new year.

Yes, yousendit is similar to hotfile and rapidshare, but it was really nice just to have drop.io incorporated into the online Xtra email client rather than have to jump to another page for a service.

Yea sorry about that. We hope to get something in the new year to replace this in the apps gallery

You could always look at using Dropbox.

Checkout the EPIC5 script I work on, LiCe. Makes console based IRC fun and easy to use, just like the old days!

Ha! You're the first to notice :)

I think there should probably be a length on that field.
