We use a Microsoft Server 2003 box

Running Exchange

With an SMTP connection to XTRA our ISP

Recently, within the last week,  we have been having issues with outgoing mail

The queue appears to stall - no messages are passed

Up until recently its all been working very reliaibly

Is anyone else seeing issues like this ?

As I'm wondering if the problem is with us here or there down the wire

I have been having intermittant problems with their smtp server, but it has only been affecting one address, on one domain.
Just put it down to shit luck so far, as it's so random, and rare, that I cannot pinpoint anything.

Which SMTP server are you using as your gateway?

still using smtp.xtra.co.nz

There doesnt seem to be a way to set the exchange connector to use either a given port or SSL, so haven't switch to send.xtra

And its been dead reliable up until about a week ago :(

Why not just have exchange do the sending itself, all you need it a static ip and port 25 unblocked (assuming you are on Telecom ADSL connection).

Are you a domain customer and we are relaying your mail?
Have you raised a case with the Broadband helpdesk on 0800 22 55 98 for this as well?

If you have raised a call please PM me your details and i can pass them on to the mail admin i know.

Regards

Paul

Because that is not happening -even giving it a > 24hr reply period - just sits there retrying ...

That may be by design though. There is more then a few devices between you and the device holding the IP for that name:)

Please make sure you log a call.

I tried (more than once)

So far I keep getting the "we are overlaoded message"

then two tracks of on-hold musak -

finishing with the endless ring ring ....

sigh

All soprted now :)

So big yups to all the Telecom staff that genuinely tried to help (there werer several)

Eventualy got the right Telecom staffer on the phone.

One informed, informative and friendly chat later we know whats up  (thankx, Alistair)

It was just us

Changes put in ploace by Yahoo's take over of XtraMail meant our system - now well over a decade old (.TRUE.)  - needed to be changed

Smtp.xtra is being retired - with access being progressiovely blocked by address - and our turn had come

Where are you pointing your exchange setup to now?

Its not entirely true that smpt.xtra is going away, for business users this is effectively what is happening ( business = domain name holder) but from what I recall this is a migration not a blocking exercise.

For general broadband and @xtra email addresses there is no current plan to turn smtp.xtra off.
