Which Auckland speedtest did you use? I believe one is hosted by Xnet and one by Vodafone which will obviously depend on the interconnection traffic between Telecom and those ISP's.

On Telecom compare to http://speedtest.telecom.co.nz/ for national speed.

For international San Jose in LA is a reasonable test, hosted by large photo provider (Flickr alternative) SmugMug. San Jose is also where the southern cross cable lands.

Ive found some webpage links timeout. Others are fine. The first article on Xtra homepage, and the CCC link to earthquake updates has not worked for days FF and IE9

It's also very slow for me right now. A new firmware for my phone just came out, but it keeps timing out after a few minutes. SSH into my computer in Auckland Uni, downloaded it in seconds...
