tedzart:
Later today the Tech will return and pick up his Modem, check that things are ok regarding the "modem watch" and replace my Thomson TG585 v8 Modem. If "problems" don't reoccur, then the Modem will be deemed to not have caused the problem.

As I suspected your problem started after the ADSL/VDSL upgrade to Foxton. It may have been the wrong port configuration that was found but you'd have to hope that someone is looking at the whole Foxton and Foxton Beach area for similar problems.

Hi,
Im a phone tech based in palmy. we do the chorus contracting around the manawatu but dont go to foxton.
However, if you give me a call (3564340/0274373107) I am happy to come around and have a look at your wiring. Oh, and I wont charge you $200 lol. (usual charge is a box of woodstocks lol).
Splitters cost about $20 to buy so I would supply and install a splitter for $50 seeing as your a forum member =D Or if you want to get real flash we could talk about some structured cabling ;)

Now I havent read every word in this discussion, but im sure it would have been said, the thomson modems arent the flashest. I have done my time doing faults for telecom and have proved alot of faults to these modems... but have also proved ten times more faults to the home wiring.

Cheers,
Sam

Does that get you a newer VDSL variant?

Cheers.

tedzart:Other non Telecom Users in the street and surrounding area are experiencing disconnection problems, from the few I have now directly asked, Vodafone, Call Plus and Slingshot Users ... but all connected to the telephone pole.

tedzart, is it the same pole or different but still aerial drop leads? Are you close to the old carpet factory? I notice strong interference on the car radio near there.

Good morning on this Friday 28th Oct 2011.

I have good news and bad news.
From Wednesday 26th Oct, afternoon 4.00pm until Thursday 27th Oct, I had not one disconnection that I noticed.
I have now been spending more time on the computer just to see if it would disconnect. Further I was under another 24 hour "line watch" and was using the Techs Thomson Speedtouch Modem for that 24 hours.
Telecom have also been ringing on a regular daily basis to see how things are going.
The Tech was due to call in yesterday to pick up his Modem and reattach mine, also I assumed he would give an update of the 24 hour line watch.
However, at 5.00 pm yesterday, the Tech rang to say he was out of the district and could not call in, he hoped today that he could call in, unless he was sent out of the area again. He did not know the outcome of the 24 hour line watch, but I said it was ok my end ... with his Modem.

Not wanting to go through yet another weekend of random disconnects, I now removed his modem and replaced it with my Thomson TG585 v8. Again I experience the disconnect, pages not loading fully ... random.
This morning, again using my own Thomson, another disconnect and pages not fully loading ... again the message ... Your Thomson cannot connect ... try again *smile*

@ chevrolux ... I am a bit "teched out" at present and do not wish to upgrade my house wiring due to upgrades at the local exchange. As for the "bells" I have gone and purchased another telephone with an especially loud ringer. Thank you for your input anyway.

@ bung ... yep, the old Carpet Factory is at the end of the Street ... the other 2 residents in the street who are affected live closer to the Factory. I have also asked the Chorus Tech ... the acting Manager (I have been dealing with 2 Techs) if it could have something to do with a couple of Ariels that have popped up on 2 of the neighbours roofs ... something to do with "cheaper phone calls" ... neither neighbour fully knew, one did not even know who put it there and also the Foxton Water Tower is now being used by 2 Degrees.

Ok folks, that is my morning update ... enjoy your day.
Regards Tedz.

I have been researching this on the Net and it appears that the configuration of the Thomson that I have may not be suitable for the new upgrade. This Modem is pre-configured ... it came without any disc ... but what would I know *still trying a smile*

Hi Ted, there is no configuration that is required, the CD is not needed ever, the Thompsons whilst not the most fantastic modem ever made is well suited to Telecoms network as they provided it.

Cheers
Cyril

The interference I've noted comes from the power supply to the factory. The neighbour's aerials could be Foxnet Wireless operated by ThinAir Communications Ltd. It's possibly their aerials on the tower rather than 2 Degrees.

PS your date problem could be your timezone in your Geekzone profile.

@ cyril7 ... I am sure you would know more about it than I do.

However, with the Thomson (non wireless) "speedtouch" that I have on loan from the Tech, did have a CD and the Tech took sometime configuring it, about 20 minutes.
Cheers Cyril

@ Bung ... thanks for clarifying the date/time zone.
Yes ... it is Foxnet with the small antennas on the roofs.
As for the Tower ... I have been looking at the Horowhenua District Council ... and they have at sometime agreed to rent space on the Water Tower for a 2 Degrees relay .. something like that.

Thanks Bung.

Does this not tell you something? Techs have been shagging around for weeks on end. They have used a modem which works fine. You put yours back on and you get drop outs. THE MODEM IS FAULTY!!!

as for interference from a factory hundreds of metres away.... Their power supply isnt going to induce on to aerial leads around the area. Maybe if there was an 11kv cable hanging right next to your one but I highly doubt this is the case.
