Wanted To Buy: Telecom prepaid SIM with old 500MB data addon.
I'm on the hunt for a SIM or microSIM that has the above now-discontinued addon. This charges the data at 10c per meg until it hits $30 for the month.
If you have one please indicate here or Private Message me. Thank you.

Thanks for the thread, I had no idea they discontinued the old plans.
So, now you pay $25 for 500MB every month no matter if you use it or not, correct?

Bugger, this was one main advantage of Telecom's prepaid plans.

Cheers.

Correct. Although obviously if you use more than 300MB on a regular basis the new plans are better

(since any usage between 300-500MB on the old plan worked out to be $30,  whereas the new plan is $25)

The other advantage of this plan that I have just found out, is that you only have to top it up yearly. I think it is the lowest cost mobile broadband plan in NZ, if you are only using it occasionally or for email

It's why I'd never give up my SIM (at least while my usage on it is so sporadic).

Wow, things you learn from GZ!

I have one of these Sims in my freebie XT t-stick that I never use, I had better chuck some credit on it to keep it alive.

Hello.

Quick question please about the "one month expiry". If I get a 500MB plan for $25 on the 20th of December (for example), will it expire on the 19th of January or on the 31st of December as it used to be?

I would assume that the first option would be true but better safe than sorry ;)

Thanks.

Out of curiosity how much would you expect to pay for one of these sims?

One month from purchase, so 23:59:59pm of the 19th of Jan in your example.

Expiry is one month after the purchase as thats when the $25 credit is applied and the 500Mb starts, paid for by the credit. If you accidentally dont add $25 by the 20th (for example), you have no data., and if you do it on the 24th, then the 24th is your new cycle. To be safe, add $25 credit a few days before and as long as you don't accidentally use some of it, it will auto renew. Or add $30 to give you a buffer if your pushing it.

This might explain my confusion. I bought a Netcomm Myzone hotspot device in July with a new XT sim.

The person I spoke to recently at Telecom Riccarton said If I bought a 500mb prepaid it would last for a year on occasional use. However online, and talking to someone via Telecom chat, they said it would expire after one month.

So if I bought a "Mobile Broadband 500MB", would it last for one year because it is an old Sim, or will it last for one month as I just bought the option?

if you add the plan now then you'll get the new one ($25 upfront).
