Hi there,

haven't seen this issue before but try this:

1 - is the device coming up in 'CD' mode under 'My Computer'?  if so right click and Eject CD - the t-stick should then go into 'modem' mode and be detected by the software

2 - I'm aware that the ZTE drivers can bind to the first device used - have you used any oher t-sticks on this laptop?

Hey,

I did check the CD mode thing as well and it isn't showing up in My Computer.
This is the only t-stick that has been in this laptop since the fresh install of Windows 7 in October last year.

Have you tried the Telecom Connect Me software instead of the software on the stick?

The MF190 (and the MF181) should come with TNZ Connect Me preloaded.

Sounds like a very difficult fault to diagnose, especially as it can't be replicated - if you put the stick into another PC it works - so naturally support staff are going to suggest it's related to the laptop.

Many other people here experience the same issue?

We've had pretty much the same issue with Vodafone sticks a lot but never Telecom.
However this is a different brand of Telecom stick and it looks similar to the Vodafone latest version.
The only way we've ever been able to get the Vodafone sticks working again is by doing a complete format and reinstall of Windows.
It looks like that may be the same fix required here as no one has a solution and we've spent way too much time on this already plus have given out a loan wireless 3G router for the customer to use in the mean time.
If they like the wireless 3G router then they may just buy that.

I had this or a very similar issue with a ZTE MF626 and I'm afraid the only way I "fixed" it was to re-image the laptop from my Windows Home Server back to a day when I knew it was working. I tried checking all sorts of things, including uninstalling and reinstalling, but no idea what actually caused it to stop.

It's been fine since the reimage.

If the computer is still seeing the stick, but won't make the connection using the software, can you just use dial up networking to make the connection?

So I gather from all of this a reinstall is the only option? I have just come across the same problem.

Yea unfortunately I won't be able to do any more testing on this particular laptop.
THe customer loved the wireless 3G router we loaned them, to stick their t-stick into, so they have bought it.
It saved them from having to reload Windows and it also means that now they can share the t-stick with others over the wifi if they want to.
THey live in a caravan park so lots of people needing internet access.

The only downside to using the t-stick this way is that you don't have the Telecom software telling you how much data you have used so they have to log into the Telecom website to check.

Apologies on behalf of Akia (Amber) she's been quite busy, she did have a chat to me about this and I had a couple of suggestions.

1. Check in the program files folder for the connection manager/ ZTE connection manager and see if there is a executable program called Ejectdisk.exe / CDROM_eject.exe / ResetCDROM.exe etc
Run that it should load the components.
For Windows 7 it resides in the following places depending on which of the ZTE modem you have.

\Program Files\Telecom NZ\ConnectMe\ZTE
or
\Program Files\Telecom Connection Manager

2. Slightly more complex.

Open Hyper Terminal.
  1. Cancel the 'New Connection' wizard.
  2. Pick 'Properties' from the 'File' menu.
  3. Select the 'Settings' tab.
  4. Click on 'ASCII Setup...' button.
  5. And tick the check box 'Echo typed characters
  6. Create a new connection by selecting 'New Connection' from the 'File' menu. Follow the wizard.
  7. Type the following at the Hyper Terminal console window:

First check that the ZTE modem supports the ZCDRUN command by typing the following command:AT+ZCDRUN?If it's supported, the modem should respond with:+ZCDRUN,OK

Next type the following.

AT+ZCDRUN=8

Modem should reply with:
Close autorun state result(0:FAIL 1:SUCCESS):1
To re-enable the CD-ROM interface, type the following:AT+ZCDRUN=9And the modem should reply with:Open autorun state result(0:FAIL 1:SUCCESS):1

Hopefully one of these suggestions should work for you. Let us know how it goes.

I'm not sure exactly what that was supposed to do but I followed the instructions and there is absolutely no change at all.
I ran all the Hyper Term commands and it said OK to them but nothing has changed. Device is still disabled.

I've asked to have this topic unlocked because I am having exactly the same problem.  The MF190 worked fine for the first two days, but when we tried to use it a couple of days ago it said 'device disabled'. I've tried everything I can think of to make it work (short of reinstalling Windows 7!)

It worked fine when I took it in to Dick Smith for them to give it a test on one of their computers.

I know there's nothing wrong with the USB connection(s) because we managed to use our Telecom(!) mobile as a modem - it works fine.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a solution yet?

I have worked on a few computers with similar probems with windows vista being the worst at for unknown reasons it stops the t stick from talking. My sollution that has has resonable success is.
Download from zte.co.nz the software for your t stick. Use the other computer or a wifi access point to download it. Uninstall the telecom connection manager and any telecom connect me software. Once complete check the programs directory on your hard drive and delete any folders that say telecom connection manager or zte. You may have to delete files inside.the folder manually. Once done restart your computer. Install the software you downloaded. Do not install off the tstick and do not plug the tstick in. Ensure the downloaded version has installed and only then insert the tstick. It will recognise the device and should then launch the connection manager and work. Points to note download the exact software for your model tstick. Uninstall all other vodem nd telecom tstick software and only insert the tstick after the downloaded version of software is installed. Hope it works for u as it has for me
