Hey guys, first time poster here - but long time lurker :)
I'm with Telecom and have been for almost 8 years now (Good ol XTRA days).
I remember when we were on BIGTIME, if I downloaded lets say 3 files on utorrent, that the speeds will at least be 500kB+- for each. I'm on a plan where we have 160GB/m now, and I find that my speeds are not very good at all.

When I play games online it's all good, no lag at all.
If I try to download 3 files now, it seems they will all work together to eventually add up to around 700kB or 800kB. I have never seen it go over 800kB.

I'll be home soon and I'll post a speedtest from there.
Any help would be gladly appreciated.
I will try and download Win8 from Microsoft and see how fast I can get.

Will

I am having similar issue at home ..
One month ago when i download something from extabit or filefactory, i was able to get around 1Mb per download simultaneously but now it will not go over 80Kbps to 100Kbps each.

If I try downloading from Microsoft site, it goes over 1Mbps and same with any local sites. Youtube is fine as well.

Speedtests show me I am receiving over 10Mbps download and 0.68 upload

Telecom doing throttle on the download sites?

Try this speedtest, it's off Telecom's core network so should be a good test to rule out cabinet/exchange congestion and backhaul as issues:

What modem do you have? You should be able to get into it's web admin ui and see the dsl status...

From memory I think it's a D-Link 504T.
Will check as soon as I get home.
Will also do the speedtest and report back.

Could easily be the file locker sites that are limiting the speed or don't have enough international transit to NZ.  What do speedtests to US west coast look like.. try LA or San Jose on speedtest.net

Default lan ip address of the DLink will normally be 10.1.1.1 or 192.168.1.1, try going to those in a web browser and logging in with:

Speedtest result:

Started downloading that 450MB file at 740KB - didn't go higher than that. Definitely < 800KB

I've noticed a similar slowdown on utorrent where I'm only getting 20% of the speed I was a few months ago.

I haven't been home enough to do any troubleshooting but my ADSL stats haven't greatly changed and it seems to be something that occurs all the time, not just at peak times.

Are you running latest firmware for your router? I had the same issue (limited to 7547kbps), but others here including Ragnor put me on the right track. Updated my firmware, and I was away.

Thanks GregV. I checked the thread and called them, but unfortunately they don't support it anymore - apparently because Telecom don't offer those routers anymore. He said we're also not getting the full speed on their end. The guy suggested I upgrade the router, but I actually just want to see what happens when upgrading the firmware. Is there any other way to get the latest firmware?

Your DSL rate is about ~800KB/s. So your download rate is about what your DSL line rate can give you.

If your line rate has gone down from what it used to be, you need to do an isolation test (remove everything but the DSL modem and move it around your various jack points) and see if it improves.
