Hi there, new to the forums

this week we've been having issues with our broadband connection

our modem/router is a NetComm NB6Plus4Wn with latest firmware
sometime last week  i got woken to say the net wasnt working, so i turned the router off for 30 seconds then turned it back on, all was fine.

then it happened again, having to get up and reset the router; twice in some cases to get it working.

before having to reset the router, the power/adsl/ppp lights were all green

i've had to reset it the last three days

i've tried other DNS server as suggested on another forum, and using google DNS servers it worked for 3 days or so but then it lost connection even though all 3 lights were green

reverted to auto get the DNS servers for now

prior to this the router has been rock solid for the year we've had the device

Can i assume this is related to this thread i was notified about??

thanks

Do you have a master filter or just standard filters? How many other devices (phones, fax, alarm) on the line? Is the alarm monitored, or was it ever monitored?

Have you unplugged ALL other devices to see if connection improves?

I don't think this is a DNS problem.

Standard filters

Devices using connection

Desktop: Ethernet

Wifi: 2 phones, up to 3 laptops, wireless printer, Xbox via ethernet
2 iPod touches

Will post more after work today

What is the likely cause at this stage??

Devices are not the ones connect to the router, but the ones connected to the phone line - other phones and fax (which you say don't have). Unplug ALL phones and plug the router (if possible) to the first phone jack in the house.

Also test connection from PC using ethernet only for a few days, not WiFi (as it could be interference from neighbours who only use WiFi at night for example).

Best thing you could do is get a master splitter installed

I had similar problems with the same router a few months back, one day it randomly stopped switching or serving DHCP addresses, just got into a state where it wouldn't do anything. Would have to reset it once a day it was 3 years old so I brought a Draytek to replace it, now stable as.

I'll look into the master splitter.

The netcomm came highly recommended to me . Its a shame if its on the way out

What model draytek do you have?? I've heard you have to use that in conjunction with another modem

I have the vigor 120 into a linksys switch with a Unify AP for wireless. It all works flawlessly now.
