Should a Telecom sim "just work" when placed in an iPhone 4?

I've got a Telecom Microsim that came with the HTC One X I was given when doing the Telecom Tech blogging for that handset earlier on this year. I now want to use it in my iPhone 4, but when I insert it I get no service. When it's in the HTC One X I get 3 out of a possible 5 bars. Is there something else I need to do to get the SIM working in my iPhone, or should the phone automatically connect to the Telecom network once the SIM is inserted?

If the SIM is still active then it should just work. If you email me pl at telecom dot co dot nz the IMSI serial number on the backside of the sim I can see if it's still active, and if not I can get it re-activated as prepaid, then you can go into the prepaid portal and topup. Edit: Actually re-reading the thread, sounds like you haven't tried to go to automatic network selection on your iPhone, have you tried to connect to Telecom under network settings, since if you're getting 3 bars on the One X, that sounds like the Sim is still active, but just not being found since your iPhone is probably set to manual on the network selection. I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

It should be still active, as it works when put back into the One X. It is out of credit though, but that shouldn't matter, should it? It only just ran out over the weekend. I'll email you the IMSI serial no. anyway, just in case you can see anything fishy.

I used to have a 2degrees SIM in that phone, and as I only needed that phone for TXTing and calling, it was easier to simply disable data altogether.

XT is a 3G network, so if 3G is off, no connection. Cell data is just that - needs to be on to get a data connection, can be off for voice or SMS only. EDIT: Beaten to the post!

When using 2degrees I had both Cellular Data and 3G disabled. I now have only the former disabled, which should achieve what I'm after.
