Hi there.

Since yesterday I have been having random disconnections. I know there was a glitch yesterday and I am wondering if that has something to do with this? I cannot download a file because the net keeps dropping. It seems to happen at random times, at least once per hour but so far since midday ive have either 3 or 4 disconnections.

Has anybody else been having this problem or just me?

I assume you mean DSL line?.. For me, nope working fine to me.

Have you spoken with the Broadband helpdesk on 0800 225 598 and got them to check your line?  Plus worth posting your line stats.. as that could be  the problem.

Yes DSL sorry. How do i get that information?

Might sound silly but I cant be bothered ringing them. Who knows how long it will take and half the time I cant understand what they are saying in their fake american voices.

Hi, also in Wellington on Telecom DSL no issues here. To get the line stats you will need to log into the web interface in the modem router, what modem do you have.

That's how Filipinos talk, it's not a fake accent, and I think you'll find after you go through the usual troubleshooting steps they'll pass the call onto the next level to investigate.

Also, no problems here in Wellington either

Its an old one, got it years ago when I first joined Telecom and their Jetstream lol. D-link 302-G and my wireless router is Dir-300.

You can get your line stats by accessing your modem, typically via http://192.168.1.254 unless you changed your IP address and go into DSL information and select the details.  If you have one of the new Technicolor ones it's here.

But you'll find that the helpdesk do answer on first ring more often than not, and are quite capible of solving the vast majority of problems.  Otherwise worth doing an Isolation test and checking the wiring in your house.

UGH!  Those modems must be 6+ years old and only ADSL1!!  If you ring 123 and agree to sign up to a 12 month plan contract (but you can change plans, it's just to stick with Telecom for 12 months) they will normally send one out for free.

Yep, you can probably double your speed by upgrading to a ADSL2+ modem, sounds like a house wiring check would help too.

As I said... Either you can pay for one yourself and I can personally recommend most of the TP Links like the TD-W8950 as they are pretty good and Ascent is fairly priced.. Or ring up Telecom on 123 and ask if they will send you another one for free in return for signing up for another 12 month contract (if you want to do that) or depending on the CSR you speak with they can charge $50 onto your account and not be under contract.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know why this could of happened all of a sudden? My net was fine up until 2 days ago when that Telecom glitch hit. Could it be that that has something to do with it, or because my modem is 6+ years old maybe it is on its way out??

I have noticed that when I download something through torrent, my net doesnt drop. But if I download something the normal way or just browse web pages that is when my connection will drop.

I have been at in-laws house for this weekend and using a Telecom connection. Pretty good here (Pautahanui, Porirua).

Just rung up the helpdesk and they have noticed drop outs in my connection. I got told to swap the filters around and they will ring me back in 3/4 hours to see what has happened. If its still the same I have to isolate the modem I think the lady said.
