Hi All

I have just looged in to my Telecom BB usage meter and the plan Description that is listed has changed from "Home Broadband 150GB - RS" to "Home Broadband 150GB Ultra VDSL (RS)"

Have Telecom Started to roll out access to VDSL on the sly with out telling people.

this seems to have changed yesterday (the 17th) as i have a new Allocation of data that will run out on the 19th (my usual rollover day)

I know i am on a VDSL capable Cabinet but my understanding was that Telecom was not planning on offering VDSL at this stage

I am trying to ring them to get confirmation but the wait time is on the long side with a cable fault in the Wellington/Lower Hutt region

has anyone else noticed this.

I hope this means they are offering VDSL soon :)

Ok So i managed to get a hold of someone at telecom and they tell me it is VDSL and that as i am now on that Plan i can now have VDSL

it sounds like they are changing the ones that qualify e.g. close to the cabinet/exchange and have good sync rates to the new plan.

i plan to get a filter installed and borrow a VDSL router and see how i go. Sounds like a good xmas pressie now the only issue is i will hit my 150gb plan a lot quicker so i might just have to move to the 500gb plan

You may want to wait a little while before borrowing a VDSL router. I suspect something's not right here and I have had this thread raised to the attention of the relevant Product Manager. VDSL is not yet being rolled out to anyone on residential BB plans on a non-trial basis by Telecom.

Edit: Confirmed it's definitely wrong. I or someone else will update when we have more details.

Cheers - N

Sigh, I was watching this thread with interest due to my provider not having vdsl and needing a faster upload speed.

Bugger

you say " residential BB plans on a non-trial basis by Telecom" would the fact my BB plan is paid for by my employer make it anymore likely that it could be true

Grasping at straws but you got to try right???

i will still go ahead and get a filter installed as i have been having issues with the ADSL connection on my current setup and it is needed anyway. as for borrowing a router i know a person that a 2 spare so not an issue to have one up my sleeve in case it does happen to come about that VDSL is going to happen

Sorry, I couched the statement in those terms JUST IN CASE there had been some business connections provisioned over VDSL. There's no chance that your employer paying for the connection would make it likely that it's been transitioned to VDSL...

I am confident that no-one will be invisibly transitioned to VDSL from ADSL either... You'll definitely have to order it when it's available.

Final update:

Sorry guys, this was due to a manual data entry error generated by a provisioning team member and it has now been rectified.
