I'm quite careful to search GZ before I post, so I don't ask something that has already been covered.

But I find the search results don't always come out in a helpful way.

Is it possible for GZ Search to work so we see the results in date order?

Or better still to search within a particular forum, rather than ALL forums?

A possible suggestion to your solution is to do a google search.
The syntax would look like this - vodafone talkzonezero site:geekzone.co.nz
I type in what I am looking for and then add the words site:geekzone.co.nz to the end of the search.

The Geekzone Search *Is Google Search*. You don't have to go to Google to use its syntax.

If you want to limit to a forum add site:geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid= and the forum number.

Read the Google help to find how to create the more complex queries.

I appreciate they are the same. I was just trying to say you do not have go away from your regular search engine, which he may be more comfortable with to perform a geekzone specific search?

We use Google Search because it's quite good at getting "related" stuff - we could implement a text search in our database but I don't think it would be as good.

You problaby would miss a lot of things due to typos (yes, there are lots of people who can't spell things right or don't bother fixing errors, so these posts make it difficult for an inhouse search engine to work well)...

Geekzone should try SLI-systems.com. The is a NZ company that provides learning site search. The Dick Smith site uses it and it's great. So does Dilbert.com

Interesting how these companies never list prices. And even though you say it's a New Zealand company the site redirects to .com.au...

We switched from SLI to Google box... I (personally) don't think SLI is as good as it claims to be.

It's because they don't want to frighten you off before they give you the sales pitch.

I have a saying.  If you have to ask, it's probably too much.

Exactly my point. These guys are there to sell to HP, WallMart, DickSmith. Not to Geekzone.

Goodness sake, we are not frigging rich here. We live of the ads, and a good proportion of people that visit the site frequently complain about the ads. So, no, we don't have money to giveaway. Google Search is good enough and does a great job if you ask me. And it's free.

I agree, the more free stuff geekzone uses the better!
