It would be nice to see what a PM says by just reviewing the email instead of having to log into GZ. While I spend too much of my life browsing here (not that I regret it :D), I am thinking of those times when I'm out an about and don't have time to go through the website off the phone.

What you all think?

Agreed, doesn't bother me when I'm at home. But on the go at work or using my phone I wanna be quick (save my usage LOL).

Although you all think it's a good idea, not sending the body of a PM is safer in many ways:

- it keeps conversations private (emails are like postcards) and the user won't risk things showing up in mailboxes where there will be regret later (companies archive everything and assume they read too).

- we don't risk being classified as "spam", which could happen if someone sends actual spam PM (it happened before) or with some keywords. In such cases Google Mail would classify EVERYTHING coming from Geekzone as spam.

Heck, we already have users who click the AUTO WATCH button to automatically subscribe to all new topics in a forum, then send me abusive email saying we are spamming them. Imagine if we sent actual messages!

This is true but wouldn't a tick box & pop-up window solve such matters? or to deal with pop-up blockers a redirect upon enable to a "are you sure?" page

Make it an option, so you can tick whether you want it or not. By default it's turned off.

Even better, just make it for mods. Wahoo!! Tongue Out

+1 for an option.
That way you can go ahead and put the geekzone PM email address on your email (gmail) white list.

We could make an option. Just imagine people receiving the notifications with a rude reply that the poster immediately after changed the tone - it happens a lot more than you think.

I understand the concerns but other than the GZ being marked as being SPAM which is a concern for us, the other ones are no different to normal email?

Gotta say this is the only forum I actively participate in (about 3 others) where PM content is not a part of the email notification, and I've never run into any problems with them being flagged as spam, etc. I do often think it's a huge pain in the arse to have to log in to the site just to get a PM when I'm on the go - which inevitably is when the notifications come though :)

You could make it a 10 minute delay on sending the notification email. Every time it's edited the timer resets.

On the other hand, no comments here, which I think it's much more important and more impacting than a PM text in notification...
