I think this would be a bad idea. It just creates tension on the forums. I would be against it.

I feel the moderators do a good enough job of removing plonkers.

It's not that I don't see the value in being able to ignore someone, but it's the same as your tv, don't like what's on it, change channels (Or threads).

It's not that I don't see the value in being able to ignore someone, but it's the same as your tv, don't like what's on it, change channels (Or threads). But some threads can have some good info in them, but are full of crap (I am thinking of a certain large and current thread you started), typically from the same few posters, it would be great to be able to not have to read the rubbish, or do I have the Plonk concept wrong?

I'm with networkn. IMO any kind of system like this inevitably leads to grief and drama, something GZ manages to keep (largely) clear of as far as I can tell...

occasionally a plonker does make a valid point, then you end up restating what they have said and look like a plonker too ;) Unless it can be make per thread, it could get a little confusing.

With Usenet killfiles all messages were filtered by the usenet client. With GZ this is not possible - but you could add the facility to define a killfile as part of each users profile. This would, of course, slow the loading of GZ forum pages because of the filtering required by using a killfile. I would be in favour of the above provided that users who had no-one in their killfile suffered no performance degradation from this feature ;-)

Surely its a choice thing, if you don't like it, don't use it. I am basing this on how I envisage it working of course. Maybe a little more info on how it will work.

I actually REMOVE stuff all the time - you don't see what's going on behind the scenes. As I said on Twitter, this week alone I have almost completely re-written the database access in the forum script, introducing a lot of new cached elements. It's faster and we're talking about ms faster, but that's what I want to achieve on each change. I think there's a [small] number of plonkers in these threads who only post to cause tension but are clever enough to stay within the fug. I have to agree though, it would be fraught with difficulty and could possibly be detrimental to site performance and the readability of some threads. EDIT: correction re freitasms comment which must've been posted just as I started to write mine :-) Chuck Norris has abolished the periodic table of elements. The only element he recognises is the element of surprise!
