We're going to need a sizeable amount of information to troubleshoot this one, I will get in touch with johnr to get a post up detailing what is required.

In the meantime, I can do some preliminary checks. If possible, please PM me either your broadband login user-id or Vodafone customer number. Please also include the name of the model router you are experiencing this issue with and what steps you are currently taking to restore services (ie. rebooting router, applying static DNS, etc)

Thanks for your patience folks - I am working with a team of people on this issue and would appreciate as much techie feedback as we can get so we can get to the bottom of this.

ill pm you in a moment, stuck this issue again today, setting manual dns servers didnt help much however. (allowed sites to atlest load) seemed everything was painfully slow all of a sudden. so ill assume along with the dns issues something else was acting up for my line personally.

yet to get my draytek however (rural delivery can be a pain!) so cant confirm if it could be modem side with the dns client crashing as suggested in the posts.

problem with this issue is you will get it like 10 times in a day and then none for the rest of the week (yes a bit of exaggeration :L )

trying with the dns relay turned off to see how that turns out (atlest counts the routers dns client out of the equation.. even if it means a bit longer dns requests due to the lack of cache - not sure how well a G604T does cache it in the first place anyway)

Ok - I've recently been experiencing incredibly slow speeds on my desktop.

This one has me stumped..
Router: Huawei HG556a
Laptop: Speedtest 10+MBPS (Hardwire and Wireless) on Win 7 64 Home Edit.
Desktop: Speedtest 0.24 ish MBPS (Wireless) on Win 7 64 Prof.
Desktop: Ralink RT61 MIMO Wirelss Lan Card.
Signal Strength is excellent.
All devices are obtaining DNS automatically and have attempted to manually set the IP on desktop with no resolve.

Last week is when I really started to notice the slow Desktop speed. Was unable to find solution and at some point the speeds were fine again until I restarted the router today. Now incredibly slow!


I have performed isolation tests, moved the router closer to the desktop, however I dont think that is relevant if other devices are getting good speeds.


Not sure if this falls under the thread topic, but thought extra information may help.

My $0.05 worth, I have the local Kindergarten Association as a customer. They have recently moved to Vodafone and three of the sites have issues similar to those described here. Rebooting the router fixes the problem and its only been happening since they changed to Vodafone. I haven't had to try static DNS entries or anything like that as the Assoc. administrator has taken it upon herself to be the aggrieved customer from hell for Vodafone broadband fault service. As a test we changed one of the sites to a bog-standard Netcomm router and its been running problem free for the last two weeks.

Some things i can pass on about the four sites:
the three faulty sites are on exchanges that had ASAMs swapped to ISAMs in the past 6 months
The one site that is problem free is on an ASAM
As I said, it seems to be an issue with the routers, or an interaction between router and network as a 3rd party router works ok.
When the routers are in the faulty condition, Vodafone say the routers are on-line and look "ok"
I believe the kindergartens signed up to a nationwide deal.
They are on very low data caps (their request)

Should add that Vodafone supplied new Huawei? routers as part of the package.

I've had similar problems. To be honest I couldn't be bothered going through support for now but I reverted to my old school MT882 and TP-Link TL-WR1043ND. Been rock solid since.

Update: Changed Channel and everything is fine. Must have been getting a lot of interference.

Sounds like the DNS forwarder on the Vodafone Router is getting stuck. Not sure what it runs, if Linux maybe Dnsmasq?

This is what we're investigating at the moment. Our team have tested a couple of connections which have had the same symptoms and this appears to the common cause. The DNS service seems to crash for reasons unknown. We are liaising with the hardware vendor and will update as soon as we have more info.

I've had similar probs with one of our tivos that was connected to the router, first of all the ip address wouldn't autorenew, just bumped that up to a really big value, then the tivo would report it couldn't find  the DNS. A router restart fixed it every time.

In the end I got a 8 port switch, and connected all 3 tivos to that, since then the tivo's have been rock solid.
