I get some Twitter tweets sent to me via SMS and in the last week or so I've noticed that the text messages all start with an inverted exclamation mark followed by the Twitter username.  I thought before I used to get an @ sign followed by the username.

It's happening on my S3 using GO SMS Pro, and also on my partners non-Android LG phone.

Is anyone else getting this?

Have you changed anything on your handset? New ROM? Updated apps? Change in SMSC setting (bits, etc)?

Nope, haven't changed anything other than installing GO SMS Pro for handling my text messages, but I've used that ok for ages.  If it was just my phone doing this then I'd say it was something unique to my phone, but since it's also happening to my partners old LG feature phone I thought it might be something outside of the phones.  We're both on Vodafone BTW.

Some Googling came up with a few sites where people were talking about non-alpha characters ($, %, @, etc) being changed to other characters (inverted question mark and inverted exclamation mark were the most often mentioned) in text messages.

I have seen numerous people commenting it is happening. Myself included. Not sure if it was just Vodafone or is happening to Telecom users also.

Thanks for that.  Now that I have confirmation that other people are seeing it too I'm much happier!

No changes have been made on the Vodafone SMS environment for quite a while these SMS come into Vodafone via a 3rd party vendor and we deliver what is passed to us from them

If someone can PM a single example time / date and MSISDN I will take a look at it to make 100% sure this is what's getting passed to Vodafone
