My wifes two year contract expires in around 10 days time. We had though she would have been contcted by now to re-sign or change to a new contract. But no contact from Vodafone at all. She made a call to them about two months ago, and was told she would receive something in the mail. ( all contact details are up to date )

Just wondering what happens when the contract lapses, does the phone get disconnected, or the billing structure change?

Life carries on as normal. Vodafone have never contacted me about my contracts once expired. You just continue to pay the same rate and get the same plan benefits. You can continue this on for as long as you like, or you can resign onto a new plan which should have advantages over your current plan (but then could be locked into another fixed term)

As above. You can do with the handset etc what you like.

Due to cheap plan rates etc the contracts are often used to pay for the hardware that comes with them instead of a large upfront cost..

IE 0$ for a samsung S3 but 12month $90? plan brings it to close to the $1100 you can get them off the shelf for. Advantage being you are using their network for a set period of time.

The part I wonder about is the 3gb data on the smart plan. I understood it was a promotion, that only ran the term of the contract.

Thanks for the info, I think we'll go to 2 Degrees, the pay monthly options seem much better value than Vodafone's present offering.

The 3GB stays as long as the connection is active and no plan changes are made,

Vodafone always made this very clear

Before you switch over to 2degrees, it may pay to give Vodafone a call and see what they can offer you!

While the 2d offerings are significantly better just remember when comparing them side by side that you'll need to factor in 2d min+min billing vs VF's min+sec billing for included mins. This averages out to around a 23% difference.
