We have two VF mobiles in the house, both in contract. Total spend around $220/month.

My wife hates her Nokia and I am a bit fed up with my iPhone 4 not having all the features of iOS6, such as they are.

She is pressing hard for me to come up with a solution so I thought I would ask you all as you always know more about these things.

Contracts expire in July 2013.

Aside from outright purchase of handsets or breaking the contracts and paying, is there any option that could be considered?

I thought of perhaps dropping the existing contracts to the lowest monthly cost possible and doing new ones for new handsets, but I am not sure what that would do re the phone numbers themselves, as obviously we would want our existing numbers on the new phones.

If the lowest contract was say $20/month, it would be $200 over the 10 months left rather than $400 or whatever the break penalty is these days. Not sure if you can do that though!

Crunch the numbers

1. Current plan to pay till July 2013 =?

2. New plan from now till July 2013 + early termination fee =?

Check what is best dollar wise and plan wise.

I am in same boat, I need to wait till Nov 2012 so that my ETF reduces
