Just posting this from the end of Bowes cres on the Telecom network where my Nokia 5800 (900/2100 3G) gets no coverage on Telecom but the R205 is working, so must have a 850 3G radio.

Hi, just saw a uk pocketlint article which showed a micro sd card? Does the NZ version have this? What format does it need to be?

Yes, it has a slot, and the firmware has a section on managing it. I haven't tried, but I suspect it needs to be FAT32.

I Found similar (or same) product from Aussie Vodafone website called "Pocket WiFi Pro"

If I buy it from Australia and bring it back to NZ, would it be works in NZ network alright?

Could it be carrier locked?

Cheers

Shin

Wow, ducked into the Warehouse this morning and for $89 have a pocket wifi router with 2GB of data over two months.

Plans:

Car based wifi
media wifi nas for on the move using micro sdhc (car journeys over christmas!) - should work nicely with goodplayer
holiday router for all the wifi devices!

I ended up just getting a telstra next G branded sierra wireless router off ebay. No idea on 900MHz support but that isnt really a problem for me, will let the friend try it out next weekend on telecom and see how it goes for them. If they get places with no coverage then they can pick up the vodafone one themselves.

The bizarre thing is that the cheapest top up is $50 for 2gig which lasts one month.  Its actually cheaper to pick up a dongle with 2gig for two months for $45, keep the SIM and throw away the dongle than to top up the SIM that comes with the device if you want more data.

Yes, it'll work fine - it's the same device. But, yes, it is carrier locked to Vodafone AU, so you'd need to get an unlock code - either from VFAU, or from other sources. Easier and less pain to get one from VFNZ imho.
