I have been given a Vodem K3772-Z usb stick 3G modem by a friend returning overseas. I'm told it has unused credit. I presume it was a prepay casual purchase.

Will I need any kind of existing user name / password login details when I install it to a mac for the first time?

I'd go ahead and try but I'm mostly out of coverage. I'd like to try it out and get some idea of the process before I hand it over to another mac user who will get some use out of it. I'm on Lion but the eventual recipient will be on Leopard or Snow Leopard if that makes any difference.

That sounds great. So the credit remaining can be seen after set up? Will I be able to top up from the same interface or must do that via the voda website?

You can topup many ways but best way is thru ' My Account ' on main Vodafone NZ web site

If you need the mobile number for the SIM SMS number to 521 from the Vodafone dash board when the software installs

Just my 2 cents.

Since, this is prepay, a topup is saved as Prepay credit on your account.

The best and economic way to use this Prepay connection is to use that credit and purchase an add-on.

These add-ons are data bundles e.g: $10 will give you access to 100 MB. $30 will give you access to 500 MB.

If you do not use these bundles, then you might end up spending your credit at casual rate. hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I was not aware a casual rate was available with vodem. That might be handy for plain email now and then.

The installation was easy. Operation of the software was really easy. Phone number is displayed on the top up page accessed through the software. I was really impressed with it and no worries about giving it to non technical people after explaining the wait for the initial connection. Much easier than random wifi for casual users.
