I mentioned some of this on the "helpdesk here to help you thread" but feel it now deserves it's own thread.

I've been with ihug about 3 years. Since changing to direct debit payment and emailed invoices my bills turn up on the 11th or 12th of each month  and are direct debited on the 18th ie about 6 or 7 days (i think short) notice.

Upon complaining, as I didn't get the emailed invoice at all this month, I was told the invoices are produced on the first and emailed on the 10th with payment actually due on the 25th.

My account is being debited 7 days early Surprised.
to top that off I finally got the email invoice today with an extra attachment about payment options. in that it said

Choose the way you pay
Direct Debit
Direct debit is a simple, no hassle way to pay your bill. You have 10 days
from the date of your bill to review the charges on your bill before
payment is debited from your nominated account. Direct debit forms can
be downloaded from vodafone.co.nz/dd/ or requested via phone.

I apparently have a ten day period beginning on the invoice date (first of the month) to review the charges yet the invoices aren't even sent until the 10th of each month. Yes they are available online but I think ihug/vodafone have an obligation to notify me of a bill within the appropriate time frame.

Does anyone else have this issue? I have taken this complaint to the commerce commission as I believe this practice is in breach of ihug's own terms and conditions.

any thoughts appreciated.

I pay by Visa so I dont need to worry about the payment date as much. When I joined I was suprised that ihug charge in arrears where other ISPs charge in advance, so I am not really worried about the invoicing. If had stacks of money I could afford to pay by direct debit... Just a weeks notice would not be enough to arrange any other payment method, so for me it appears more to do with their customer service than the fairness.

Slingshot expect payment within 7 days of the invoice - yeah right. Even my power company isnt that stupid.

There are standards that places have to follow about notification of direct debits, no less then some length and no more then some other length, cant recall what they are right now but your bank should be able to help.
