codyc1515: I called the helpdesk who were no help whatsoever, the lady tried to tell me that it was something I was doing which is ridiculous. Then tried to blame it on an iOS bug, however, I tried an XT simcard and that kind of error never happened. JohnR: Any ideas?

I would try again via 0800 921021 sometimes the first CSR you hit is hopeless, I normally give it 3-4 times with different CSRs and I am sure you should hit a good one eventually.

And if you get the same CSR 2nd time around (since it is the holidays and all that) I would say that you are trying someone different since they are being no use at all, and this is a known fault that has been reported on Geekzone and point them to this thread.,,, Much like with Steve B's data issue which has now been resolved, it took a long time to accept it was a fault since not everyone was affected all of the time.

maybe this has something to do with the extra 20,000 visitors to your region?

Ha, extra 20,000 visitors in Palmerston, you'd be lucky if there were about 500 people here anytime of the year. Also, if that were the case, then surely you could just add more capacity.

codyc1515: Hi all, thought I would post to this thread instead of start another (thread unlocked cheers to freitasm). I have been having this problem for about two weeks now on Vodafone NZ, from Temuka down to Palmerston, randomly, last time this happened was at 11:18 PM, with the error:

"HTTP Error 504: Gateway Timeout

The server, while acting as a gateway or proxy, did not receive a timely response from the upstream server it accessed in attempting to complete the request."

Sounds like a cache issue to me?
Any ideas?

This error is not related to your phone

Does it happen when visiting all sites or just one?

What APN are you using on your phone?

How often is this happening? I was a passenger in a car driving from Christchurch to Auckland and we stayed the Night in Palmerston as well I never had this error once. Not saying its not happening

Sounds like you think adding capacity carriers have a big red button say ' add more capacity '

No, but it is my understanding that you can send out one of the, I guess, mini towers (like on a trailer), I know that we had one at Feilding before a permanent tower was put up.

It happens randomly on different websites.
I'm using the standard www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz that is the default on the iPhone.
I appreciate you saying that the error is not related to my phone, as I was quite sure it wasn't my iPhone, and the CSR insisted that it was.

Not that simple each carrier has a limited amount and they are planned for usage months in advance

How often %10 %50 %80 of sites you visit?

And did you call the 0800 921021 number and select mobile Broadband support?

The best idea is get about 5 - 8 example times and dates and call the 0800 921021 and get a job logged. I would look into it further but on holiday till 18/01/2011

Thanks John

I did get it logged by calling that number, like I said, the CSR was not helpful.
As for the amount of sites, it's probably in the 1-5% range.
Have a happy Holiday.

CSR logged the job which is what they are meant to do and this gets passed onto another team higher up on the technical side and they will run traces to see what is happening on the packet switch network

Sorry in which way was the CSR not helpful?

They treated me like an idiot and tried to blame it all on the iPhone software, suggesting that I reinstall the software, etc, etc.
