Hey in the comments on that link a dude said at&t actually charge you to receive a call. So if someone calls you and you answer it you have to pay for the call. New Zealand carriers don't charge to receive calls. Also take a look at at&t prices here: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/messaging-internet/messaging/faq.jsp#costs-im You actually have to pay to receive an sms(text message). So how would this work? If a person sends you a text message do you have to pay straight away because what if someone sent you 20 spam text messages that you didn't even want?, do you have to pay? People could run up your phone bill easily if every text message you receive is charged.

this was posted a while ago I'm pretty sure. I'd say us being 7th most expensive is pretty good (there are 18 countries on the list, so we are just below half way). Also, the assumption that the users on 'unlimited' plans will use anywhere even remotely close to 30GB per month is absurd. sure, some might, but the vast majority won't. the comparison does not take into account the actual cost of the plan enough. If voda NZ launched a plan that gave you 1000GB for $450USD per month then they would be the cheapest by that comparison. A better table would be to show how much you pay in different countries to get a) 250MB b) 1G c) 5GB and d) 20GB

Paul not only that but US pricing almost always excludes sales tax (their version of GST) because how much that is depends on the state. Often it means that the prices quoted for a plan will actually be 5%+ higher than it seems. NZ pricing almost always includes GST so is not directly comparable.

Paul Couldn't this be abused though? If a person only had $20 on his/her phone, a enemy could just sends lots of texts to a person's number to intentionally run the credit down right? Or do usa carriers offer users free call barring and free text barring?

Absolutely they could. This is why Do Not Call lists are so popular in the US and why we resist the move to "Bill and Keep" so vigorously - one of the models in a BAK world is to pay to receive calls on your mobile. It's very easy to guess mobile phone numbers as well. Email addresses are somewhat harder but phone numbers follow set patterns. So if 021 000 001 doesn't work, move on to 021 000 002 and so on.
