Topic # 70742 29-Oct-2010 20:36 Send private message

I've just created a blog post discussing my annoyances with the Vodafone network at present.

With increasing frequency data sessions are stalling. When this happens SMS messages are unable to be sent or received, and inbound voice calls will all be diverted to voicemail. Once the stalled data session is ended the problem fixes itself.

I've been encountering this issue for several weeks and I know there are large numbers of other people encountering issues also.

So people he's your chance - who's having issues?

Unscientific, but I've had several occasions over the past week when I'm unable to use the phone's data connection (web browsing, or twitter), and then discover later a couple of voicemail calls.

I'll monitor it more closely.

Happens to me all the time in Wellington CBD.

Like, every day. On multiple devices - before I moved one of them to 2degrees.

Do people with this problem have 2g enabled? Because I am so often leaving data open on my slingshot 2730 and have not had any evidence of missed calls or not sending texts, but I dont text much or get many calls on them. Only thing I have done is turned off 2g since I get sick of hearing GSM interference when driving.

Me too, I haven't noticed data as much as texts...and at the same time, I can't make or receive phone calls. Have to restart my iphone 4. Papatoetoe here.

There are a few threads on this in the vodafone forum, but the main one seems to be this: http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/topic/5983-sms-problem/

They know there's a problem and are investigating, last page asks for info on when it happens, etc.

My iPad has been generally okay up until now but today it has been almost unusable. My iPhone which is on 2degrees is absolutely fine, and I will be switching my iPad over to 2degrees as soon as my Vodafone contract expires in a couple of months.

I haven't noticed it on data, as I'm om prepay so use wifi as much as possible.

However I noticing it on text messages. Quite often over the last few weeks the text tries to send, them stalls, before eventually failing. Takes several attempts over several minutes to get it to send.

I don't get many calls so can't say if incoming calls are affected.

All this time i thought it was the device! I get this in Auckland cbd and out in highbrook at work. Restarting the device has been my fix. Should've figured since it never happens when i use xt sim.

The MiFi is a Huawei device, right? When I was using the Huawei based 'Vodem' between 2006 and 2008 data session lockups were a chronic problem with these devices on the Vodafone network, and although it was somewhat alleviated over time I didn't completely stop suffering until I switched to a Motorola device. It left a sour taste in my mouth in regards to Huawei product, but I would concede that the problem could quite possibly have been down to substandard infrastructure or firmware on Vodafone's part.

As mentioned above my iPad is now the only device that I use on the Vodafone network and I have not experienced any notable data session lockups on this device until it started giving me hell today.

Multiple Problems past few weeks have been the worst - Browser Fails, SMS fails over and over, sometimes calls don't connect - don't seem to do anything, seesmic, newscientist - lots of apps that need to use data wont do anything or time out.

I was blaming my phone - HTC Magic, new Feb 2010. Think I'll have to apologise to it for calling it some terrible names.

I always thought this was a fault with my phone, its been happening for some time. I used to reboot the phone but now i just go airplane mode and back again. HTC Desire. Husband also has this with his Nexus One, both being Android we also wondered if it was a fault with Android.
Get it in Waikato (all over) and Auckland

Funny huh? All us tech types will just think "damn phone" and reboot it. I've hit "retry" on so many txt messages over the last couple of weeks. Now it all clicks into place.
