I wonder if any of the CSR staff who I tried to lodge a fault with this earlier evening are reading this and think it's still only my handset?

Do you also get the problem where Vodafone does not send you the text message to say you have voicemail?

I have been getting times where the phone does not ring and I dont get any notification of voicemails until later in the week if someone else happens to leave me one

could be related to what you are saying as data is always on on my device

I was with vodafone for a long time until now. My 3g connection would always keep dropping back to 2g. during txts, incoming call - all the times.

I would see on the screen it wud say 3g vodafone, but as soon as i took and call and finished talking and ended call, the screen will drop down to 2g.

I was so sick and frustrated, and to top no free customer service. 2degrees is far better

This is not in any way related to this issue and is perfectly normal network performance. The exact same thing also happens on the 2degrees network so you are no better off.

Most networks around the world who run dual 3G/2G networks will force voice traffic from 3G onto GSM to preserve the 3G capacity for data since it makes no sence to tie up 3G capacity for voice when GSM does the job perfectly.

So thats whats been happening - I thought it was being caused by Twitter since the problem correlated to Twitter updates.

It's been driving me nuts in Palmerston North. SMS coming in 12 hours after they were sent, including Vodafone alerts that I was about to go over my data cap for the day. Calls have been going directly to voice mail but notification that I have messages often comes in a day later.

I knew it wasn't the phone as I've changed between three different phones in the past two weeks and the behaviour was consistently eratic with all three.

alasta:
harrylin: me too. i use voda 3g on my MiFi here. sometimes the data session is still on , but i cant use data... i need to reset the mifi for it to work again. its damn annoying here... several times a day it happens... i dont know if it is the problem of my MiFi... voda network is simply the worst here in new zealand.

The MiFi is a Huawei device, right? When I was using the Huawei based 'Vodem' between 2006 and 2008 data session lockups were a chronic problem with these devices on the Vodafone network, and although it was somewhat alleviated over time I didn't completely stop suffering until I switched to a Motorola device. It left a sour taste in my mouth in regards to Huawei product, but I would concede that the problem could quite possibly have been down to substandard infrastructure or firmware on Vodafone's part.

As mentioned above my iPad is now the only device that I use on the Vodafone network and I have not experienced any notable data session lockups on this device until it started giving me hell today. ?

MiFi is a MiFi from novatel wireless. It has nothing to do with huawei in 2006 or 2008. I bought it just to get 3G signal. It's been a pain. I thought it was the problem of my MiFi. But according to most posters here, it should be voda problem. I had had terrible experience with voda before. Cancelled contract several times. Lol. It's still the same now. Always problems on voda.

I feel so much better now, I'm in the "I thought it was just my device" category. Happens once or twice a week, data session stalls (usually when I've got it idle in the background), phone stops receiving texts and calls and starts to get really hot!! Usually I notice when my pocket starts burning. A quick reboot and she's hunky dory!

Anyone else have the heating up issue associated with it? Nokia E63.

sbiddle: I've just created a blog post discussing my annoyances with the Vodafone network at present.

With increasing frequency data sessions are stalling.?When this happens SMS messages are unable to be sent or received, and inbound voice calls will all be diverted to voicemail. Once the stalled data session is ended the problem fixes itself.

I've been encountering this issue for several weeks and I know there are large numbers of other people encountering issues also.

So people he's your chance - who's having issues?

Yes to all issues listed. In chch and timaru. I don't use my mobile a lot is 50 SMS and 20 calls in and out over a month but surf 20 times a day. Issues about 10 - 20% of the time.

I've had to re-register on VF's network to restore 3G data service when I move between Glenfield, Albany and Birkenhead. I'm OK within one zone, usually, but see consistent problems between zones.

Samsung Galaxy S / Froyo JP6

I have no issues with SMS and rarely make voice calls. I do data.

No, the MiFi is not a Huawei device. The MiFi is a Novatel device.

Ben: Funny huh? All us tech types will just think "damn phone" and reboot it. I've hit "retry" on so many txt messages over the last couple of weeks. Now it all clicks into place.

Funny is how I have many times I voiced the Vodafone network was suffering in some ways and never got any support from anyone. The only thing I got was word fights with Vodafone Head of Communications at the time.

Perhaps now people would stop and look more closely at their constant email problems. If you use ihug email you sure noticed they have email problems?

My $0.02.

confirmed here in Wellington's northern suburbs where my wife and I use our iPhones most of the time. Data is happily happening, then it just stalls, SMS fail to send.

Will be interested to see whether any tech journalists pick up on what is a serious issue, given the grief they give XT every time the slightest little thing happens after their previous major outages.
