Hi,

I have just been trying to setup my Mac Mini to connect to the net using my new vodafone router.  I have been using the Mac for a couple of years but not with vodafone as my ISP.  I can connect to the router and everything looks good, but I can't get onto the net.  My Mac laptop works fine, as does my iPhone.  I have double checked all the settings but can't find anything wrong.  Any ideas???

Thanks

A

Are you able to ping an external IP and url?

If you can ping the IP, but not the url, you may want to double check that you aren't using your previous ISP's DNS servers.

Hi, as oldhat says, you may need to force the TCP stack to renew its IP lease, a full reboot will do it if you dont know where to find that setting.

Also check that the Mini has its TCP setting set for DHCP (ie automatically get IP address) and the same for DNS if it has an option to set it.

Have tried that already, ping finds the IP address from the URL but nothing comes back.  I didn't try with a pure IP.  I'll check later but pretty sure the DNS was set to the routers IP, even if it was set to the last ISP's DNS servers, they should still work.

Thinking about resetting the router to factory as it is at the router that things seem to stop.

Any ideas??

Oh and I'm using Snow Leopard Server edition if that makes a difference.

Have you tried trashing user preferences that relate to the internet and cleared the various caches. Failing that producing the result I suggest you look at http://discussions.apple.com/ and specifically the Mac Mini section dealing with Internet and Networking.

If the url is resolving for ping, have you tried a traceroute to see where that stops?

You could also try your old router again and see if that replicates the problem. If it was a setting in the new router causing issues you would expect the macbook and iphone to also have problems.
