Hey guys,

Anyone been noticing wildly unreliable mobile data in the Auckland CBD lately? Have been having problems trying to establish connections lately and midday today I was essentially unable to connect. I understand there's congestion around this time, but being able to continue chatting would be nice.

Tried a few different spots, inside Westfield Downtown, Britomart Carpark (both locations pictured below in screenshots) and the ferry building and back up at the University of Auckland and experienced speeds between 2.5Mbps and 0.01Mbps within minutes of eachother.

What's going on here?

Any reason why you're testing to Christchurch? There could be various reasons that have nothing to do with the air interface that could be the cause of these issues.

Automatically selected by the Speedtest app. Only just realised that there's an option to manually select one.

In either case, I still could barely access any resources at all, so I don't think Snap was the problem here.

Having exactly the same problem, I'm on College Hill, just up from Victoria Park. It's being going on for a week or so now.

Same problems here. In Ponsonby, in close line of sight view of the transmitter, full strength signal which even the iPhone 4 death grip doesn't change.

V frustrating!

I am having the same issues in Tauranga and Palmerston North. The only place I seem to get any decent connection, is the Desert Road. I have complained about it so many times, no one listens. So I refuse to pay the bill.

Vodafone's Customer Service team always, I mean always, blames the phone. They always want to get a tech to help me "troubleshoot" which consists of resetting the network settings and the likes.


As it stands now, both of my iPhones have been barred by Vodafone, and both will be ported over to Telecom by the end of the week if nothing is done.

EDIT: When I was at Ellerslie racecourse in November, I had 0.23 Mbps and HTTPs failed to load.

heh, I'm on 2degrees broadband and I've been noticing in the last couple of days that a small ish percentage of pages won't load until I reload them again for a second try

May not just be in Auckland as I am in Welly CBD here and the data speeds are atrocious lately.

Speed test download range from 0.02mbps to 0.79mbps during the day and upload is from 0.01mbps to 0.05mbps

I used the Mobile Eftpos machine (through Vodafone network) in West Auckland area, it takes nearly a minute before a transaction is accepted. (Thank goodness, that still goes through at the moment)

Humm, I ran this test at home (wgtn) the other day to show a friend and the speed was faster via 2degrees than orcon... Anyway, yeah I noticed that VF has been having issues lately as well. Their 3g has become <EDGE speeds...

The transaction data is so minimal, if you are using a chip card then I can understand why it's taking so long. Though the ping may have a little to do with it. Do you have the option over wifi?

From my experiences mobile eftpos can be much faster than the older system.
I think they are all pretty much pure digital now anyway, Can you try over wifi?
