Topic # 85040 12-Jun-2011 10:53 Send private message

Hi Folks,

Just noticed that my data usage for the month so far is tracking at 14.98 GB on the vodafone web site (ultimate naked DSL product), but that the WAN stats on my HG556a router show 2.5 GB up and download combined. I've heard that there are discrepancies between the data figures for some providers, but not nearly as great as the figures above. I suspect I'm looking at the wrong figures on my HG556a router. Are the relevant data figures under Device Info > Statistics > WAN? I've logged in to the router as administrator to get these figures.

Cheers,

David.

Vodafone did have a data issue back near the start of May. Customers and Vodafone staff suspected there may have been another problem recently but investigation by engineering and faulting folks at VF have not found any issues this time around.

With regards to how much data your WAN stats have counted the question you might want to ask is over what period was this data counted? The thing to keep in mind with your modem is when it restarts it starts counting data all over again.

The counter was restarted at the same time as the vodafone billing cycle. I guess the comparison would be meaningless, otherwise. I'll file this issue away in the "too hard basket".

David.

Have a look at this thread here, some similar issues: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=84705

jbard is right that thread does cover some other basic troubleshooting steps. In the case of the OP in that thread it appears that somebody obtained his username and password and was using up his bandwidth. It wouldn't hurt to update you VF password just to be safe.

Ok found the actual answer to this question. Apparently the reason you HG556a is showing this amount is due to a limitation of the hardware. It actually will only go up to a certain number of bytes. This has already been raised with the appropriate people.

I've also just replicated this on my own HG556a.

Thanks Jaxar. This explains the 2.5 GB usage on my router stats that doesn't seem to change.

David.
