Topic # 92957 10-Nov-2011 00:49 Send private message

Been a while since I posted here (let alone start a topic,) so hopefully those preprocessing/editor changes don't screw this one up!

Looks like Vodafone's nudging into the whole Prepay combo pack market with their Prepay Smart plan, which basically is the Simply Prepay slapped with some "Smart-only" add-ons.

Prepay Smart has all the value of On Account, with the flexibility of Prepay.
You have the choice of three Add-On bundles at a great value price:

• Smart 25: up to 50 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles and 100MB of data a month for $25
• Smart 35: up to 50 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles, 150MB of data and a NZ Bestmate (1000 mins and TXTS to one nominated NZ mobile or Landline) a month for $35
• Smart 45: up to 100 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles, 250MB of data and a NZ Bestmate (1000 mins and TXTS to one nominated NZ mobile or Landline) a month for $45

If you use up all your Add-on before it renews don't worry you'll pay just:
• $0.49 per min to any mobile number in NZ
• Just $0.12 per txt to any NZ mobile
• $0.20 per MB

Even though the 20c/MB rate is the lowest casual data rate on Prepay, that's still quite bad especially considering smartphones are most likely the target market (now where did I get that...), which I can easily see chewing through even 250MB - heck that'll take me only a week or so to go through...

On the flip side though, BestMates (on Prepay Smart anyway) are now set for any number in New Zealand, though that 1000 minute and text ceiling still stands.

Good to see the telcos are turning the heat up.

Wish Vodafone would in some bigger data packs that a decent price.

100mb for an entire month is, well, taking a girl out on a date and saying, "That's all I can afford" after the entrees :P

average smartphone usage worldwide is only around 250MB even on unlimited plans, so 250MB should be fine formost people.

There's no details of this on the VF website from what I can see, is this yet to be released to non VF customers?

So going by the OP (can't see anything on the VF site yet) the Smart 45 is the same as the on-account Smart 45 with the addition of a Best Mate (currently $6/mnth). The big gain is on the lesser accounts (25 and 35). At the moment you get 1GB/mnth for the first 6 months on-account (pay monthly).

*Bestmate to ANYONE* That's a pretty big deal...

Yes I agree, I guess I was trying to point out why you would do on-account Smart45 instead of pre-pay Smart45. At the moment it's 6 months of 1GB/mnth (on-account) vs Anyone BestMate (prepay) to ponder.

Looking at the difference between the prepay S25 and S35 you get +50MB ($6) and a BestMate ($6).  So $12 value for $10.  But as pointed out the BM is more flexible.

At the moment I am very miserly, using super-prepay with one BestMate and BBLIte for the princely sum of $16/mnth.  These plans look very enticing as I easily stick within my 100MB each month.

Edit:  And will topping up still get you 100 weekend minutes as well?
