Can you confirm if the Sky part has now gone thru! You should of been contacted by now and I can see no further updates,

cisconz: You can have a static ip - but it is $23 per month.

you can also have your 0800 number for free each month, if you don't mind 39c +gst per min call rates.

I would think about swapping from Snap just so I could use the cellphone coverage extender thing as my house has poor reception but I sure aint gonna pay 23 bucks a month for a static ip when I get it for free at the moment.

Hi Aidan / John,

 

I have been watching this thread closely as I did the same switch from TNZ to VF on the 28th Dec, albeit a little less complex without 0800 / static IP etc.

 

Without wanting to hijack the thread I just wanted to add my experience with the switch over. It is mostly positive and the same as Aidan, just waiting for Sky to update me about my package being switched over, or a VF update when it has occurred.

 

Below is a summary of my experience, please PM me if you have any specific comments to my situation, if it will benefit everyone then feel free to post below:
  • 28th Dec ordered online I received an email the same day thanking me for choosing VF and confirming the packages ordered.
  • 2nd Jan I received an email confirming when the landline and broadband would be activated. (6th)
  • 4th Jan I received an email confirming the router was on... route (Sorry) and had a tracking number to follow. Said it might take 2-3 days but turned up on the 5th.
  • 6th Jan broadband switch over happened, updated the username / password and all was back up
  • Next up, speed tests! A couple tests from various sources (TNZ / Speedtest.net / Consumerspeedtest.org.nz) showed that local ping times had halved 50 to 25 and down / up speeds had doubled 5 to 10
  • I guess the next events were a little out of sync and happy to accept I ordered this a couple days in between xmas and new year, when most businesses are running skeleton teams.
  • 10th Jan I received 2 txt's in the morning that were 5 mins apart,
    • 1st txt said “Hi Stuart, Your broadband ideal read connection on the Vodafone Red network is now active! If you need any help, call 0800 800 215”.
    • 2nd txt said “Hi Stuart Thx for joining Vodafone!Yr broadband password xxxxxxx Yr username is on yr welcme letter.U need both to access the internet”
 

I will post another update when the Sky part completes and hopefully yours will be shortly behind Aidan.

Hi sorry about my delayed reply, but my family and I went have been on holiday since Sunday. And no at this stage we have still heard nothing about the Sky / MySky. I will be contacting VF / Sky once everything is unpacked.

I just did a herp derp. I didn't realise you had to actually apply for the MySky Upgrade via the online account management on VF's website. Well I was about to click the MySky HDi upgrade until I saw the $99 installation fee.

I was really annoyed at this as it wasn't made obvious this fee would be included. And secondly all that needs to be done is to have the cables switched over to the new MySky box. Surly they could just drop the box off with the appropriate cables and let the user do it themselves? I refuse to pay $99 for something that could be easily done by a 12 year old.

I will be calling VF/Sky soon to discuss alternatives or how this fee can be over come. I will keep this thread posted about how it goes. I was very happy with the service until now. And I only recently had normal sky installed so I refuse to have to pay further money for another installation.

I think I just pulled another herpaderp and rushed into things. Is the install cost only for MySky+?

I currently have Sky Digital, so is there any install cost going to MySky HDi?

It is to do with the guarentees that sky give in terms of rain fade etc. they require one of their techs to install any new decoder.

 when speaking to a vodafone sales rep, you can make a deal requesting the $99 fee be waved. from my experience, vodafone are one of the best companies in NZ due to their ability to negotiate. its all about asking ;) good luck.
