Thought I'd share this experience, because I am sure others will benefit if they follow a similar path.

I am with Vodafone's "Smart $45" plan and I get the following;

Plus an extra 1GB of data for the first 6months, which finishes this month.

I was considering 2Degrees $39 pay monthly plan (with extra 1GB data and extra 100mins bonus);

..But was sad I would lose the Best Mate, network coverage (?), and paying for seconds rather than rounded-up-to nearest minute.

So called Voda and asked if they can match it. They did! They offered an extra 1GB and an extra 100mins calling on top of my Smart $45 for free for life.

They get the thumbs up from me.

So you now get 200 mins and 1.25GB per month for your $45 as long as you remain a customer?

Well done.. except that we users need 2Degrees to gain users & revenue to provide better competition to VF & Telecom.
We all then benefit.

Yup, plus keep my best mate, 2500texts and charged per second (not rounded up to nearest minute).

Good point.

Why didn't Vodafone offer you this until you blackmailed them into moving to 2Degrees?

2Degrees have just extended their 1GB national bonus data to existing customers on the $39 plan or higher to two years, and we didn't even ask for it. 2Degrees won't even force you into a contract period to get this. You'd get equal coverage but not your best mate, but go some way towards helping to give the big two dominants the middle finger. If it was me, I'd have shifted in a flash.

VF are generally very good for a large ISP. I am glad they did this for you!

I, for one, hope they follow the same tack when it comes to the data block announcement.

Very likely I'd imagine.

VF rolling over unused minutes yet? or offering loyal customers deals like this unprompted?

That's really nice for you - well done!

We had two accounts on that plan and had the 1Gb data expiring on 20th June. When I called Vodafone the answer was an unequivocal NO with nothing being offered to keep us. So, two accounts moved to 2Degrees. Due to SMS issues, I regret the move but Vodafone wasn't interested in keeping me so be it.

Good job! Always great to ring the providers, and get a few extra deals out of them

Is that on a no-contract plan? Or are you stuck for 12/24 months?

RamyElbeltagi:

I am with Vodafone's "Smart $45" plan and I get the following;

I'm out of contract with Vodafone and received a call from them wanting to "upgrade" me to this plan.  I said no thanks as far as I'm concerned that's not an upgrade for me.

On my current plan (Smart 1) I get:
60 mins talk time
2500 texts
1 best mate
3GB data
all for $40.85 per month.

What was interesting was this was the first time vodafone have ever got in contact with me rather than me contact them.  I get the feeling they want everyone off those original smart plans which are data friendly.

Just a tip to others on Vodafone - if you call them make sure you are speaking to someone in their retention (or Save) team. I didn't and as a result got nowhere with them. Apparently, I wasn't speaking to the right people. Too late for me but this might help someone else.

Are VF letting you share that 1GB of data with up to 5x other devices or family/friends yet?

Let me guess... You have ported your 021 number to 2degrees? Don't. The SMS/porting issue is rife! Get a shiny new 022 number and don't turn back :)
