Just wondering if anyone knows the compression rate of Vodafones NZ music store now. It used to be really good, about 256kbps a few years ago, but when they redid the store, it dropped to 128kbps, and sounded poor quality so I stopped buying music through it, as itunes was far higher quality. But I've got vodafone credit to use, so wondering if anyone knows it the quality has been increased or not on VF music store.

The last one I brought, Avalanche City in 2011 was 128kbps, sounded really poor and compressed.

Thats costs, and last time I did it was only 128kbs, so was basically a waste of money. As per my question, have they increased the quality recently. There wasn't any announcement that the quality was decreased from 256kps. I would have thought that it was a pretty simple question and it would be in the FAQ on the vodafone website.

Guess not too many people download from it, so I guess it must still be at 128. Guess I will buy from itunes then. Don't think I should have to waste money testing, as was suggested by vodafone staff, as they should know or test it themselves where they have free access to access it. Would have preferred to support an  NZ online store, but oh well.

It's probably not a question frequently asked

Do you happen to have iTunes Match? I recently used it to convert all my "other" purchases (Vodafone, Lala, Digirama, etc) to 256 kb/s AAC.

No I don't. All my music is already at 256 kbs so it isn't really any advantage to me. But that is a very  good point though for people buying inferior quality copies. But as VFs prices are the same or more than itunes you would expect them to be at the same quality these days, and infact they were a few years ago, and don't know why they dropped them.

If you want to support a local online music store, then go buy from http://www.marbecksdigital.co.nz/ rather than iTunes.  They're at 192kbps I believe and I think they have some 256kbps as well.

I find the search function on the music store isn't too flash and the song selection can be a bit obscure sometimes :(
