First post,

Has anyone used a free internet fax service like http://freepopfax.com ?

I want to test this service but I dont have a fax machine. Could someone here fax around 100 words to your own fax machine and scan and upload the document here so I can confirm it works and see the layout of the fax, what the ads on the page look like and the number of pages it used.

Question related to a fax machine. Can a fax machine in New Zealand only receive 1 fax at a time? If 3 people sent a fax to a fax machine at the same time would the last 2 faxes fail to be received?

If you're wanting to receiving incoming faxes as well, you'd be best to use a Faxmail service.  With that you can send any document as a fax, and receive multiple incoming faxes as well (both via email).

2talk offer this service.  We do too, but 2talk is cheaper if that's the only service you want.

I've heard of this mythical 'fax' but have never seen one.
Is it some kind of creature?

Yes, very ancient and rare.  Now found only in the dark corners of some lawyers and accountants offices...

You would be surprised.

Massey still required extramural students to FAX (not email) assignments for some courses as recently as last year.

At least now they are using Stream more and you can just upload docs.

I tried it 10 mins ago and still no fax received.

A fax machine is like a phone .. if someone tries to send faxes to you while you're receiving another fax, they'll get an engaged tone.

A fax to email service would be better if you need to receive faxes concurrently.

Thank you for testing the free faxing website.

Have you tried your area code with the leading zero and without?

Feel free to recommend me a free/trial service that would allow me to email to a fax number in New Zealand that you know works

I didn't use a leading zero as it displayed +64

You can get a free fax line from 2talk.co.nz and you get a few free minutes which you can use to test.  After that you will need to purchase some minutes.

Got a notification that my fax failed.  It showed the correct number, and the fax number I used was my VFX fax to email number so it should have worked.

No need to test .. I use it as a fall back when my T.38 fax fails and it works for me.

Just a reminder that you can only email PDF and TIFF files for faxing.  Others including PS are not permitted.  So, don't try faxing Word documents etc.
