Gidday guys,

Title says it all; the GOIP GSM-> VOIP adaptor looks like a good bet for us, but I'm slightly uncertain if it is compatible with XT's UMTS flavour of GSM.

Anyone tried?

Cheers!

Tony

That device is GPRS (2G) only. Telecom is WCDMA (3G) only. These devices are very outdated - they won't work on Telecom at all, and might work on Vodafone but they are using technology so old you shouldn't even consider it.

There are a number of GOIP branded CTU's but they're all GSM only so won't work on XT (or any 3G network).

If you're looking for a CTU I'd recommend opting for a 3G one over GSM anyway as the voice quality is better due to the different codecs.

Thank you both, I really appreciate your guidance  As you see I am quite clueless when it comes to cellular, and VOIP in general not much better.

We have an old Portech GSM gateway in service now, working happily to link our Trixbox system with the Vodafone network. I'm considering a change to XT (who seem to have dramatically cheaper plans for smartphone use), but it'll require an upgrade of this box.

Is there a good, modestly priced 3G alternative you'd recommend?

Tony

I would use one of these but VOIP is pretty cheap anyway.

For what reason do you need this? Just for cheaper calling to your company's mobiles?

Isn't that what you wanted a gateway to the cell network and yeah could be for free group calling.

With group calling including landlines on offer from the likes of Vodafone, TelstraClear and Telecom the use of CTU's is very much a hack these days.
