Topic # 110164 4-Oct-2012 12:11 Send private message

Presently am with Telecom but considering a move. I live in Wellington and the telstraclear website does state that my house can get "cable"... but I don't see any cable running into the house. I believe it may have been there at some point in time but looks like it may have come down on one of those windy days. Anyone know if there'd be an installation charge for naked dsl if I was to move to TelstraClear and would that include a fee for re-installing the cable if for whatever reason it just isn't there anymore?

Telstraclear don't do naked DSL, but that isn't cable in any case, which is what you want by the sounds of things.

Sorry... probably a wording problem by me:
"naked dsl"... should have meant "naked broadband" as per this link: "http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/inhome/internet/cable-broadband/naked-broadband.cfm

Naked Broadband+ with "calling off" is naked DSL. However, the rest of your post is correct since he wants cable :)

Ring and ask them is all I can suggest. Can get here in Chch often does not means will get. You can be turned down for back section, long drive, too far. So ask and see :)

Why do you think there might have been service in the past? Did the house ever have cable TV for instance?

Is there a small rectangular box on the side of the house, probably labelled "Saturn"? (It's often difficult to spot---they try to mount it unobtrusively)

You could always email and ask what the installation charge would be.

thanks for the responses...
basic TC response is "it depends":
'TelstraClear Installations are usually completed without any issues.

Please note however, that in some instances we may need to lay extra cable. This may mean you have to pay additional charges.

If this is the case, we will advise you prior to commencing work, and you will have an opportunity to decide whether you wish to go ahead.

There may be occasions where TelstraClear cannot proceed with your installation due to technical, legal or economic constraints. If this happens, we will contact you and advise you of the options available to you.

Also, local by-laws and restrictions applied by neighbours may mean we cannot go ahead with the installation. Again, we will let you know and advise you of the options available to you."

actually I don't think it it.   It's normal DSL with the landline calling ability 'switched off'.   the end result is the same, but a subtly different thing.

Hi hasso.

For a cable install where the house does not currently have a pre-wired service we will generally install at no charge. However this depends on complexity of the install. As you have read in the terms and conditions, we always reserve the right to decline an install or ask for a contribution towards the cost.

However this only happens on rare occasions, and we'll keep you informed if this is the case.

If you are happy to PM me your address and a contact number I can have a team member look into the address for you and get the ball rolling.

Cheers, Gary
