Had a fellow staff member which always paid their TelstraClear phone line/internet bill for home recieve a letter from TelstraClear this morning advising that she is being moved from in arrears to in advance (pre-paid) billing.

She rang them up and you cannot opt out of it, and it's happening in this pay cycle.

I assume it's not just her which is being moved to pre-pay so I think this will catch a lot of people offguard at Christmas time, having to pay 2 months worth of phone bills at Christmas time.

Did your friend have already received the invoice confirming there are two months being charged?

Great Scott!

Interesting. I've opted to signup for Telstra's ADSL2 service in North Shore about 45 days ago. The guy was very anxious to get everything signed up quickly and then told me my service would be changed from the 21st of November.

There's still no word from them. Really, really disappointed, since I've praised them to lots of customers based on previous experiences in dealing with their team.

This would surely piss me off even more.

Hmm unless I read my bill wrong, isn't it always been prepay? You paid ahead of the month that you'll be using, and you pay arrear for the overage charges.. ??

The above was my bill and yes, it has always been arrear... Hmm... Would like to hear from TCL to get confirmation on this matter.

My latest bill, dated 26/11/09, seems to do two different things.

Big Back Yard 21/11/09 - 20/12/09
PhoneLine Basic 19/10/09 - 18/11/09

I have just checked my last invioce and it appears that the "fixed" charges are in advance and the variable ones for past.  So on my bill (dated 19th November) Telephone, Internet and TV are for the period 18/11 to 17/12.  Phone calls (to mobiles/tolls) and additional traffic usage is for the past...

So I am not sure if this has changed too much at all

I wish they would change it and bill all those variable ones in advance too, it would make things much easier to understand on the bill with everything being charged for the same time periods!

That would be a good trick! Billing for variable usage in advance? :)

How can they charge for a variable product in advance, if it varies?

Edit: Bah! You type too fast :P

It might be a bit tricky, but sounds like typical TelstraClear copout. Put it in the "too hard basket".
