markdr: Release notes anyone?

Agreed - would be really good to get details of what changes each release so we know what to expect

I had a pleasant surprise when I was halfway through programming my Logotech Harmony remote for the T-Box – I received a message saying that there was similar device in the database: Manufacturer – TelstraClear, Model – T-Box. I accepted the programming and it seems to work well, inceasing considerably the WAF.

Apologies if this has already been noted, although I have seen reference here that the T-Box was not in the Harmony database. May be a recent addition.

It wasn't when I set it up for myself a couple of months ago. I wonder if it saved the one I configured to the database. I spend a while learning the buttons from the remote and trying to relate them to the options availible.

Obvious bugs and promised software updates aside the one I really did not understand was the bit about Padding.  It suggests that using padding can cause recordings to fail???  I don't get it, either there is a recording conflict or there isn't.   Surely the recorder should not accept future recordings if they conflict (i.e. more than two at the same) even with padding.

'You can change the padding to anything higher than 0, however this can cause 'false' conflicts on some recordings and may cause some recordings to fail. '

Yes having the padding buffer set higher than 0 can cause conflicts.
E.G.
Lets say a padding buffer is set to 5 minutes (which is 5 minutes before & after scheduled screening time)
You've set-up recording of 1 News & 3 News every weekday (1800-1900) but your padding is set for 5 minutes so your actual recording time is 1755-1905 on CH1 & CH3.

So, now the lovely lady decides she wants to record Shortland Street weedays from 1900-1930 on CH2

The T-Box has 3 tuners & can record 2 tuners at a once... Shortland Street will fail because it going to try & start recording at 1855 while the news coverage is still recording (and will do until 1905).

Hope this helps.

The series 1 TiVo from 10 years ago did it well. 5 minutes earlier and 10 later unless there is a conflict with another recording. Unless there is some complication with having 3 tuners rather than one I don't see what the problem would be. Another thing I miss from my TiVo is being able to watch TV for 10 minutes and decide it looks good so record it and the recording includes the whole program that was being cached before you started recording. T-Box seems to just record from the real time point ignoring the cached content.

We have rolled out new software overnight for the TelstraClear T-Box.

This version is 2.9.20.

You can check your software version by pressing 'Menu' and selecting 'Settings' and choosing 'General'.  The software version is listed under 'System Details'.
The IPG Version displayed should be listed as '2.9.20'.

If in the chance that your T-Box isn't showing an IPG Version of 2.9.20,  then please power cycle it.  This will then force your T-Box to download the new software.

Bug fixes in this release include:

The problems with Freezing/Pixilating on Channel Change has now been fixed
Programme 'loopback' during Live TV is no longer occurring
Recording Failure Messages are now shown correctly on Failed Recordings in the planner screen to assist with troubleshooting
An improvement has been made to the handling of deleting recordings.
Selecting 'Back' when watching a recording now correctly takes you to the Planner screen instead of Live TV.  Pressing 'Stop' will take you to Live TV.

Enhancements in the release include:

Recording Dates are now shown for recordings in the planner screen.

…and numerous other small enhancements.

I shall check when I get home.

I am currently waitng on a call from Telstra re some sort of discount on my 1st months charges as the product does not work as advertised. Hopefuly they come to the party as I resent paying to be a beta tester.

I haven't had my 1st physical bill yet but from my phone conversation this morning they have also cocked that up i.e. charging me for the t-box hire when I am supposed to get it free for 12 months and I think they have charged me for install etc. as the bill comes to over $400.

Come on Telstra it's not hard to get these things right.

Well I have the update and no freezing so far, after switching channels many times. It seems progress has been made; however there is an enormous delay (about 30 seconds) in displaying the guide and planner screens.

I was the guy with a delay in guide and planner display. I powered off and on, the upgrade came down again - and all seems sweet! Thanks TC.

Triggered the update this evening by powering off and then back on.  So far so good.  No freezing or pixelating so far and the changes to the Planner columns (date of recording/recording status) is an improvement.

I had a fustrating evening last night when the upgrade did not work.  I power cycled the box three times and then rebooted it (customer services talked me through this) but still did not take.  So right now we are stuck on 2.9.8 with all its flaws.....

Well there was intermittent network problem on TelstraClear Cable last night though... Give it another go later today if you can.
