Redr0c: I'm still having frequent problems with the 'blank screen' here in Wellington. ?Sometimes a reboot of everything will fix it, but mostly it takes several attempts to get it working again, occasionally over several hours.

When you get the "updating / please wait" message on start-up - is this the T Box updating its software or just the EPG?

Starting to wonder if I have (another) faulty unit.

Sounds silly but try a channel change. This will usually clear it.

Hi, yes my comments could well be a troll, however I have now started fielding a good number of calls from folk with T-boxs that are not geeky inclined asking what should they do, they feel trapped with bad service, they simply got this thing expecting it to work, and it clearly does not.

I do honestly hope TCL sort this stuff out, or very soon they will be dealing with a major issue.

Cheers
Cyril

ZollyMonsta, any chance you could request the addition of a feature to change the sort order of the recording list? We've got a 100 or so recordings for the kids, and it takes forever to page down to the new recordings (at about 5 seconds per key press).

So my T box after 2 days of being unplugged has just decided that it won't do anything. It weren't through about 3 hours of rebooting, the TC tech said he could get to the modem but not the box.  So I'm booked in for a technician, but he won't be available until the 4th of Jan. That's 10 days away! OMG!!! no nickelodeon, the kids are going to go mental !

I have followed this thread closely since I got my T-Box, before that I followed the thread(s) as people waited (and waited) for the T-Box to be released.   However my experience post the last major software release has been that the product is stable, yes there are occasional glitches, it works and like all software products it can and hopefully will be enhanced in the future.

Sub, I personally find this very hard to believe myself ;)... Why you are with TCL and using their tbox rather than your own PVR baffles me.

But I do agree that 5 seconds per page is one of the many reasons why I am still on my DMM and not at all inclined to move over to the TBox.  And that sky seems to be the only real option here.

Perhaps that is part of the plan (read Trolling here ;) Make the box awful and people will move to MySky?

I've got everything - TelstraClear T-Box, MySky, DreamBox and of course GBPVR :D I'm a total TV hardware geek and couldnt resist knowing what it was like, so had to get one. It shares duties as a kids recording server.

In general the T-Box is ok. My only complaints about the box are:
- its a little too slow change channels. 3.5-4.0 seconds, but should be more like 2 seconds.
- its way too slow paging down through the recording. 5 seconds per page down keypress on a 100 or so recordings is painful. The software must be doing something brain-dead for it to be taking this long.
- no way to sort the recordings. I'd much rather have new recordings first to save me having to go through the whole page down problem.

I do find myself remembering how cool GBPVR is every time I go through the pain of finding a recording to watch on the T-Box. (it makes me long for GBPVR's fast Recordings screen, scrolling through lists, grouped recordings, whats new lists...all stuff you take for granted)

Thanks - this works sometimes.  Other times I have resolved the issue by unplugging and re-plugging the HDMI cable.  If the TBox does not respond to the remote (front light flashes) only another reboot will fix the problem.

I still have lots of issues with my TBox.  Lots of annoying little bugs, but by far the most annoying is the crashing.  My box crashes about every 2-3 days still.

I've worked out that nearly all of the crashes (95%ish) coincide with the end of a scheduled recording.  The box stops responding completely and the record light stays on.  I then need to reboot.

The other major problem that been happening the last few weeks (perhaps coinciding with the 2.9.20 update??).  Is that series links have started disappearing.  For instance last week it suddenly stopped recording Letterman, and this week it's stopped recording the news.  These are just a couple of examples.

I wish there was more feedback on what bugs they know about and are working on.  If they had a bug tracker available, we could even report the ones we know about.  There must just about be a hundred or more that I've noticed.

It's probably more likely a feature that it doesn't record Letterman to protect you from having to watch that lame trie-hard!

Well - after several months of issues - most of which were resolved with the 2.92 update - my t-box stopped working this morning. Did several power cycles to no avail. Called customer service and told that the earliest a technician can get out to me is in 6 days time. Talk about contempt for their customers.

Very seriously thinking about demanding that they take their t-box back, refunding me for the unit and then calling up MySky.

Got it working again last night - fifth time pulling the plug out is a charm. Big thanks to ZollyMonsta for emailling me to see if he could help. At least someone in Telstraclear believes in customer service.

Well TCL has just sent me a note saying they are discontinuing analogue service in March. I have one digital and one analogue STB. So I am going to have to either get another digital STB or a T-Box.

From reading this thread it looks like the T-Box isn't quite ready for primetime yet.

While it offers a PVR capability I have that now with GBPVR capturing the analogue output from the digital STB and for FreeviewHD, just capturing the UHF signal (in HD).  The main feature I would get from a T-Box is the epg for non Freeview channels but locking up all the time doesn't exactly appeal to me.

I guess I have a month to make a decision.
