larsandjodi: angry with teltra & their idea of the great t-box

we are on our second t box itself (in a month, first one apparently was "faulty", and have had 6 different technicians out to "fix" the problem that they havent fixed at all.

just wondering if anyone else has these problems
or has a solution to them

since day 1, we have been having continuous "updating... Please wait" appear on the screen every time we change the channel (when it lets us change it)

when and IF we are able to change the channel, it freezes.

as soon as waking in the morning & flicking the t-box on, it freezes for a good half hour, in which i have to pull the cords out, to reboot the t-box, generally this fixes the issue, but the last three days it has not.

when we try to watch a recorded movie, it freezes 3/4s way through and jams up, then we miss the end of the movie because it does not reload.

has anyone else had these problems , if so did you find a way to fix them?

This will seem a strange question but keep with me, How are you using your T-Box. Do you Power Off each night, That is, turn off at the wall?

every night i turn tv off, and turn the t-box off at the button. not the wall. so it does its updates etc at night.

Do you have the T-Box sited by it's self. That is , not stacked with other devices such as DVD players etc. Also is it's locale providing good air flow? If it is in one of those closed door units it will not be getting sufficient
air flow. As heat is dissipated through the case it needs to sited by it's self in a well ventilated locale.

This device is an Appliance PC and needs to be treated similar to a Desktop PC.

Hi larsandjodi,

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Please PM me your account number and I'll ask the broadcast technical team to have a look into this for you.

Cheers, Gary

Fog

Just curious, but why do you turn your t-box off.? I leave ours on.

because every morning when i got up, if left on the box would have frozen over night,

the first few nights last week of turning it off  stopped it freezing when turning tv on in the morning, but now we have nothing, no telstra working at all/

The fact that it is attempting to do "updates" all the time, makes me wonder if the problem is actually with the modem rather than your T-Box.

If you haven't already, try power cycling both devices.  That is, turn both off (at the wall). Turn on the modem and let it finish booting up, then turn on the T-Box.

I meant to ask you how things are going with the non-power-cycling? Or did that come to an end?

So far the new features seem to be working ok and the new color coding of recordings I find quite useful.

My one minor issue at the moment is with the HDMI handshaking. If I put my TV on standby it will get switched back on after a few seconds delay. Also if I switch to another device it will sometimes get switched back. My work-around seems to be to put the t-box on standby first and count to 5 slowly.

Going forwards I would still like the option of being able to specify start and end times for any recording. Also a visual indicator showing conflicting start end times would be good as well. This would give me the option of chosing which programs I want to adjust and leaving me a bit more in control.

I was told back in April (by TelstraClear) that manual recording is coming this year.
