jasonwaiheke: When are we likely to get an update that improves user performance with respect to simple channel changing.? I am sick and tired of putting in a channel number it sitting there in the corner then the screen going black then the number dissapears, then the banner comes up, then the banner dissapears, then the programe or channel selected comes up, such a lot of waiting and a staggered process, on a normal tv, you chnage channell it changes, nothing like this, no powercycling or anything fixes it.


I accepted an update the other day... can you give the details of this.? I see from here it has something to do with performance in the EPG, for whcih there is mild improvment, but i would like to know specifics.

It is always quicker to enter three digits. Try that.

It is amazing and reassuring to see that many, many other people have been having issues with the Telestra T-Box!

I am currently on my third one in a matter of weeks after ongoing issues.  I too have had constant freezing of programmes.  The last straw with the very first T-Box was a recording issue where I had set the planner to record two programmes.  They were both on at the same time and on different channels.  When I went to play them back the programme recorded perfectly on Channel A but the programme recorded on Channel B was the same one from Channel A !  How on earth ?

A technician was sent with a "replacement" but he said it wasn't a new one but instead a "refurbished" one which basically means it is second hand and was once new until it had some issues which needed fixing.

That replacement failed within a matter of hours and thankfully the technician was in the area and he came back to "have another look at the problem"  He decided it was actually a cable problem and therefore replaced a cable or two behind the tv cabinet.  How unusual then that later that evening the same issues arose again and the T-Box was stuffed.

Along comes the third replacement (also "second'hand") and seems to behave itself for a week or so but now it won't allow programmes to be watched on any channel without freezing.  Once the tv is turned off for the night the next time it is turned on there is a frozen picture on screen from sometime during the night when the T-Box has frozen.  The same old same old unplugging and re-starting is performed but after a few minutes the current picture freezes.  Changing the channel allows that new picture to play for a few minutes and then it freezes.

Also with this current T-Box it will not perform with the Planner.  A two-hour movie was set-up and upon playing it back all that was recorded was the end of the programme before it and then it immediately played the credits of the movie I wanted to see!

I have since been on the phone (yet again) to Telstra and I now have to wait until Wednesday 30th November for a technician.

Maybe the Sky Network has a better choice?  MySky?  Its looking quite favourable at the moment!

Very disappointed!

My new joy did not last long.  I have been appreciating the faster response while in the EPG and Planner but the darn thing has just frozen up on me this evening!  I was recording TV3 and watching some recorded items and had just moved down in the Planner to watch the next item and then the whole thing froze.  Of course this will mean the programme I was recording will be only partially recorded as we still have no manual record function.  Personally I would rather have slow responses with the EPG and Planner than this darn freezing issue.  I knew it was too good to be true!

I had a problem with the T-box crashing today, too.  Was watching a prog I had recorded, and as soon as the TV3 news started recording, the program I was watching froze on the screen.  It's not the first time the box has crashed on me since the recent update, either, but I'm not sure the other occasions happened when a prog started recording.  Very annoying, as the remote doesn't do anything, and the only way to get it all going again is to reboot it  :-(

Have had similar issues with T-Box.  Last tech was also willing to "swap out" a unit for a referb unit.  Lets say I wasn't too happy to get a second hand unit for my having paid for a new one originaly.  This makes it Unit # 6.

After some discussions he advised that they are not installing any new units uintil they recieve a new shipment from Taiwan (or somewhere).  All units at the moment are second hand.

When asked when we could see the new units - was told around December (or later).

When asked what was the reason, and what was the change that caused thios approach - answer was "don't know"

Upgrade.24 has made an improvement with page speed, but stioll have issues with "not subscribed" and "Black screen".  Main issue is auto adjust off HDMI connection (low light shot fades out).  They have admitted that there is a fault with HDMI output, hopefully the "new" units will have corrected this.  I wait in hope (but not holding my breath!)

We have loaded the new update, pretty much as soon as it was announced. Since then we have had a random lockup (blank screen, no response to remote etc), yesterday we were back to "Not Subscribed" and then today our other long term issue resurfaced in that we are playing a recorded program and the screensaver kicks in. I would probably have to say that the T-Box has been less reliable since the update,but maybe that is just my expectations being too high.

There seems to be a few issues with the new update. So far, It's been fine for me. I haven't had a Not Subscribed screen for some time, and never the screen saver during playback. Also hasn't locked up for a while either.

And now I've probably jinxed it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments and feedback. We’ve noted the suggestions that have been made and the broadcast team have logged them for consideration. Please note that the recent update is the performance enhancement.

The issues reported since that update are known and being addressed in further updates that are under development. These will change some of the T-Box behaviours that have been mentioned here, particularly the issue with record freeze. They will also enable some new features.

Programming work on these updates is underway, and the updates will be delivered once they have passed QA and our intensive testing process.

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGHH!

I just discovered that out second T-Box, which has never been replaced, has had more failed recordings over the last 3 days than successful recordings. They seem to have failed for an unknown reason (useful eh). My biggest frustration right now is that the Phoenix vs Sydney FC football from yesterday is one of those that failed. A fantastic win for the Phoenix, which I watched live, but like to keep to re-watch - and it FAILED!!!!!!!!

This has never been this bad until the latest update, but maybe that is just coincidence.

Yes, just had a failed recording "for an unknown reason". It was the wife's shorty - so was not happy about missing the start of it (luckily was watching it near the broadcast time tonight!). The box didn't have a good week early last week either. Just checked and box is currently running the latest software version.
I also checked the Signal Strength in settings and noticed although tuner 1 and 3 were "excellent" at 68%, tuner 2 had zero for signal strength. What's the cause of that and could that have contributed to a failed recording (if that tuner was being used for that one)?

I have surrendered and cancelled the T-Box service. It was a hard decision and not taken lightly as I really wanted T-Box to succeed in order to provide a viable alternative to Sky.

Right now though T-Box is really not ready for the mass market , I believe that the issues with T-Box are not just Software but there is also hardware issues as well.

If TelstraClear sort the issues by a ground up redevelopment of the device then I would be happy to return.

I have retained the Landline and Cable Broadband services.

That display is very confusing as it only shows signal strength for tuners that are actually in use at the time. In order to see all 3 tuners operating you need to have two simultaneous recordings and be watching a third channel.

Other than the slow user interface, since the initial box replacemetn we've been almost hassle free....

This morning we had our first "not subscribed".......

I would rather the slowinterface than the potential greif that I seemed to have been able to avoid upto now...

Thanks for that, yes that seems to be the case. I'll put that down as a product feature then.
