After yet another failure and lost recording (black screen of death caused by changing channels whilst recording a program) I'm beginning to wonder if we shouldn't put together a list of Do's and Don'ts on how to use the T-Box the user manual is obviously seriously deficient.

I'm also wondering when the long awaited for change to the routine that sets the default channel to One every night will be implemented.

Well I finally had enough. I am even paying the early termination fee just to get out of it. I couldn't see how a different box would help. The lady who was finally dealing with it was surprised when I asked her to read geekzone to get an understanding of how frustrated people are. Almost feel like suggesting they give me the job to problem manage this entire thing.

I just want to say one thing. This doesn't truely represent TelstraClear. Other than these T-Box issues I wouldn't hesitate recommending TCL for business, broadband etc.  I have kept my broadband and will definitely go back once the issues are sorted. Just wish someone paid attention to these updates and actually did something about it.

OK. Well I hope you have more luck with whatever you are going
to replace it with. Cheers.

@ bmani - Did they say why you had to pay an early termination fee even though their product wasn't living up to its end of the contract??

Reason I ask, my wife had a melt down today when the movie we were replaying froze after the machine started to record something else. She wasn't worried about the movie we were watching, but she knew we had lost the program it had begun to record.... She had daggers in her eyes!

Add that the "not subscribed" and "CONFIDENTIAL", and she's had enough.

The problem is, that these have only happened in the last week. Upto now, its been 85% ok.

She wants MySky, and I can no longer fight TCL battle for them without the potential for divorce!!!!

I know its only one of the reasons you give, but wouldn't MySky show CONFIDENTIAL too as its the same data being provided to MySky and TBox decoders and the issue is with TVNZ/MediaWorks pretending that people shouldn't know these things? (Or does MySky update more regularly?)

I was asked if someone had come to replace my tbox. I said no and she was arranging to get someone through but having had so many issues I just couldn't put up with it any longer. I am not someone who sits infront of the tv all the time so when I do I expect it to work. I don't want to have to turn it all off, wait and then power it back on. By that stage I have already missed a bit of my program. It's was all just too much to argue and if she didn't realize how many disgruntled customers are out there than who am I to educate them. I worked on the principal - is it the right battle to fight!! And it's not :-)

MySky does update more often, although sometimes the data still says "CONFIDENTIAL" right up until airing so it wouldn't help. The T-Box seems to fetch programming data once and then keep it permanently, even if it's changed (or if not permanently, until well after it's changed on Telstra's online version and Sky's schedule). You can restart the box and it will download the week's schedule again with whatever data is current at the time, which often gets you immediate/ten-minutes-of-waiting schedule changes.

Has anyone ever had their TBOX forget a recording's starting point?

This has happened to me on Tuesday and Wednesday, under similar circumstances at about the same time of the evening.
Here are the details:

I have been recording the Australian Open Tennis on Sky Sports 3 using a series link recording.
The daily coverage is in two segments, the first begins at 1pm and lasts until 9pm, the second from 9pm and going to 2am.
I have a 10 minute buffer enabled, and during the tennis grand slams I boot the TBOX every couple days at 6am.

It's approximately 8.30pm. The 1pm Tennis program is still recording, and since 7.20pm the other tuner is busy recording too.
I have watched just over half of the tennis recorded so far, (about 4.5 hours into the recording),
when the screen briefly goes black then returns to the planner.

When I select that recording again, I don't get the option to resume, it just starts playing from the start...
Except, the TBOX's bookmark of the start of the recording begins from the time of the glitch, at 8.30pm, not at 1pm.

This morning after the reboot I examined the program details. INFO shows 480 minutes, 1pm-9pm, but only the last 50 minutes are available to view. What the #$&@!

Tonight I will stop viewing tennis after 8pm and wait until after 9pm to view the rest.

Telstraclear, is this a know bug?
Wait, the next release will fix it yes? Wink

Turned on the TV to another blank screen to-day, rebooted and updated only for the screen to turn immediately back to another blank screen, twice in one day is a new record for me. Seriously thought of ringing TelstraClear and complain, but the thought of hanging on to the telephone for an hour put me off:-(

Hi,

I'm considering a Tbox, currently a TC broadband customer in Wellington but now out of contract so I figure I'll see what they will offer me to stay.

Does anybody have anything good to say about the things or should I just pay for a TiVo or look at other options?

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

I've subscribed to cable television for many years going back to the old Saturn days, and never had a problem.

However, since the T-Box was released, like many others, I've had nothing but problems. Foolishly, I had the T-Box installed the first week it was released and paid the one off payment $499. I would like TelstraClear to fix the problems and remain a customer, but I'm fast getting fed up with the bug ridden unit.

My recommendation to any one thinking of installing the T-Box is DON'T.

Addendum:
So tonight I stopped time-slipping the ongoing recording of the 8 hour tennis, and around 8pm, having seen about 330 minutes of the potential 480(+20buffer)minutes of recording, I stopped viewing and left the TBOX on LIVETV until 9.10pm.
I've just checked the completed recording and guess what?
The TBOX says that my 480 minute recording is only 49 minutes long.
Conclusion: The TBOX cannot currently record programs that are over 7.5 hours long!
Very unhappy.

TelstrClear, any feedback, news, response? Any suggestions on how to mitigate this problem?

I'm tempted to be a little more positive.  I purchased a T-Box when they first came out having been a long term subscriber to cable TV (Saturn before Telstra).  Like everybody I waited and waited and waited and finally it arrived.  I've had a few niggles but on the whole if you can get the "free" for two years deal I would seriously consider it, it has improved and whilst there are still some issues I think the benefits out way the odd problems for the majority of subscribers.
