From TCL's website

"The new update resolves the recording and playback behaviours that some users have reported."

SOME users, SOME users!!! - come on TCL the marketing people are ruining you. It's only soem cause the majority die ont he phone complaining.  Even my 70ish mother reboots her T-box every morning when making a cuppa - just to watch Corro with a vague degree of certainty. Geologists now measure Glacier creep, not in Aeons, but in units of TCL call centre wait time.

Here's a marketing challenge - Give Alan Freeth a T-Box - he's been reported recently as saying "watch this space". Who at TCL wants to tell him that the space is frozen!!

Case in point - tonight, while recording another channel,  and watching the Hurrcanes glorious win, I went to the loo (as you do), came back and rewound to hear Captain Conrad's take on the game and then - HANG! FREEZE! Waited 5 minutes but resorted to the re-boot.

FAIL

Like many (obviously including the TCL test team :), I normally use my TV remote to control the sound. But out of interest, I checked if it was happening to me and indeed it is.  The TBox volume control appears to be broken on HD channels only.

I'm using HDMI, but it's going through a Google TV box on the way to the TV.

pdg777: I am on my second T-Box in 10 months of my 24 month plan, and now it is freezing form 15-30 seconds at a time and then showing the show for 10 sec

Hi pdg777. Sorry to hear you're having problems. Can you please email me with your account number and contact details and I'll arrange for someone to contact you about a technician visit.

lanceanz:
Iceni: Unlike others I'm not experiencing any volume problems (on any channel).

You won't notice the issue if you have the T-Box volume set at or near 100%, and you use your TV or audio system remote to control the loudness.
That is how we have always done it, but it does mean using two remotes which is no hassle.

being a QA tester myself, the first thing I do when an update comes out is test the most basic functions, i.e. channel navigation, volume control, menu, planner, and guide navigation.

I would have thought that there would be a set of tests like this that is always performed on any release candidate.  It seems not.

As I have pointed out in previous posts there are issues with volume control.  The workaround for this is not too bad but using two remotes is a pain.

The one that pisses me off the most is the channel navigation using the channel up and down buttons.  if you press the down button 5-6 times for example, the banner no longer updates to show which channel you are up to and then to present the picture on the screen now takes an age.  This is a fundamentally basic function of the box that should always work flawlessly before any update release.   The banner seems to take a lot longer to appear now too when you press the channel up and down buttons.

Grrr!  These are basic functions that TCL should insist are right before any update is released.  Regression testing is important people.  Put yourselves in the shoes of your customers, many of the with partners that get annoyed when the TV doesn't work properly.

That is where the Universal remote comes in handy.  Programme Your TV in, only one more button to push then to change volume.

I have noticed two things since the update: the first is a really annoying 1/4-second black screen immediately after going to or exiting the Planner or Guide. Sometimes I get a 1/2-second blue screen while the HDMI re-establishes contact.

The second is that there are 2-3 seconds of black screen when changing channel.

Come on TC, is this progress?!?

What brand of Television do you have?

I am not seeing that on my Samsung Television.

TelstraClear: For those interested, our website has more detail on the update.

That's really nice thanks Gary. Just one question:
why is it that you cannot get to that page from any link on the Telstraclear website?

I have tried searching with the online help, I have tried a Google search for "T-box" and "update" restricted to that site - I get one hit and it is not the one I'm looking for.

How is a body to find this stuff if they are not aware of Geekzone and this forum? [oops, that's two questions]

Anyone noticed that the fast forward (32x) is faster than it used to be?

Yeah I think they are all a bit faster which is good.

On a side note, and probably jinxed myself now, no issues to report with lock ups or failed recordings so far...

I also find this annoying. I just can't understand what the problem is with writing the appropriate software. Surely it cannot be that difficult?. Perhaps someone more knowledgable could enlighten me?.

"Use the remote guide to program it for your TV: http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/inhome/tv/pdf/TCR089%20Remote%20User%20Manual.pdf "

stevesumner, Thanks for that tip.  I can now use the Tbox remote to control the TV volume and turn the TV off (I leave the T-box on all the time).
RobertT, yes, now I have noticed how fast the 32X FF is  :-)
No crashes of the system yet...........fingers crossed......

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments and the feedback.

The reported issue with the remote control volume keys not working on some TVs on some channels has been advised to Digisoft. This issue is not present on all television sets and can also vary between TV sets and can also differ on the same model televisions, depending which firmware you are running. We suggest that, if you are experiencing this issue, you check you are running the latest firmware.

We have asked Digisoft to work on this. In the meantime, we recommend that you keep the T-Box volume at 100% and use your TV or sound system remote to alter the volume. Thanks to stevesummer for posting the link to the instructions for setting up your T-Box remote to control TVs and DVD/VCRs.

The delay in channel changing and banner display has also been noted and passed to Digisoft for investigation and rectification.

Hope this is useful,

Gary
