Okay, I can save myself about $300 per year by returning to TCL as a TV customer (albeit locked in for two years).

However, I'm still concerned by the issues that others have raised regarding the TBox.

Are people with TBoxes still having problems? (even niggly ones)

Bear in mind, our MySkyHDi STB has basically been rock solid, and wife is very happy with it.

We had many issues to begin with... now there's just 1 or 2 small issues.

1) Every now and then pixellation in the picture for about 10 secs... (occurs say...once a week or 2

2) The box freezes up, and shuts down and doesn't respond to the remote... We were told to reboot at the wall.. (occurs once a week without Fail)

It is far more stable now than it was though...

Thank you chiefie and LifeSteala.

I guess I can wait until after RWC [sigh] (the sound of overwhelming recommendation was deafening).

It really isn't that bad Zaptor... Although we have to reboot at the wall once a week, the system does run pretty well.. Rebooting is something we've accepted to live with - and of course the odd pixellation which is a given since data is coming through Cable...

If you can head out to a Telstraclear shop either in WTGN or CHCH - you can have a play with one of the T-Boxes there so you can get a feel for what it's like... I would recommend this actually! :)

Currently no place in chch to play with one .. Unless ya got some cools mates with one!
Hereford is shut for a long time. Colombo is well red zoned + worse?

Durham is only a reception for now and Northlands being a shop in the mall doesn't have access to cable,

But I would recommend getting one .. HD RWC.. Droool...

We have had a T-Box for a couple of weeks now and if you take my advice you will be better not to rush in and get one. It doesn't appear to be as flexible as our old Digital Decoder. Things may improve.?

Care to elaborate? In what ways is it not as flexible?

Well to start with. With the old digital Decoder you could set the amount of time before a recording starts and set a different time at the end of the programme. You can't do it with T-Box so there is a lack of flexibility. The old box displayed the channel you are watching, this one doesn't. You could also record direct to a HDD/DVD player to keep a copy on DVD. You can't on T-Box.

Yes

- Need to switch off at the wall once every day or two when it freezes. sometimes takes a long time to come back on line

-when recording long programmes it only records the last(?)  96 mins even if the recording is much longer (e.g. it recorded 96 of 540 min long tennis slot)

Thanks for the additional feedback.

Dang, now I'm thinking I'll just dump the subscription service altogether after RWC. We've got a good enough transmitter here where I live that I might just need to buy a better (UHF?) aerial and get a Freeview HD recorder. Actually, have those things come down in price or are they still a rip off?

You can pick up Freeview HD Decoders for under $200 off trademe. And I still believe the MySky is a far superior box in comparison to the TBox.

If you wait a few more months the new Google Android 2.2 based IPTV Box will come out with built HDMI. It is in NZ at present (but without HDMI) and is brilliant for streaming live television and watching 1080p movies from your couch with use of wireless keypad. there is a link www.kiiwiii.co.nz on market now which is well worth looking into in my opinion.
