Gilco2:
sidefx: Can the download upgrade version be used to do a clean reinstall from scratch (without needing to find my windows 7 dvd which is who knows where!) at some point in the future if needed?

If not, could I find my win7 dvds, do a reinstall of that, then upgrade it to get a "clean" win8 install?

If the answers to both of these are no, can either be done with the store bought upgrade version?
okay good news.  Bare hard drive install using download win 8 pro wont activate but I booted from the disk I had created again and did clean install and it automatically activated. So all good

So, Glico, can you confirm that you are able to download a complete Windows 8 Pro .iso using the 'NZ$49.99 Upgrade' route?
Cheers. :)

I think it gives you the option to create a DVD. Not a fan of their installer system though. It crashed the first time I used it when I tried to pay. Why can't they just have a simple download site.

It downloaded to the laptop I ordered through and once downloaded goes through gathering files. Then it gives option to install now, install later using downloaded files (to that effect)  and 3rd option save to iso for installing from disk later.  I chose iso and to dvd as didn't want to install on that laptop.  I installed on different laptop from that dvd.

not sure what I am doing wrong trying to get the media centre.  I am sure I am typing the letters in exactly as they show on the right but it wont accept them.   I hate that feature

DoggNZ: Edit: Windows 8 Media Center pack for free

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs

Did this work for anyone? I put in a request at about 11:00 and no email yet. Just me, or everyone?

Yip. Signed up for the free key just after midnight and received it at 3.30am.
It seems it might take a few hours to be sent to your email.

Still waiting for my email to arrive. :( Requested it around 1pm.

Does anyone know if you have a 32bit windows 7 install, whether that can be upgraded to windows 8 64 bit with this upgrade?

Completely agree. Geez, the upgrade assistant really needs some way to see how the download is progressing other than just "Estimated time"....  Download size, current download rate, etc.  I get they probably want to avoid scaring non-geek types, but that user experience is dismal for anyone used to the details most browsers\download managers\torrent programs\games updaters\etc give you on download progress.

I specifically asked if the boxed copy I was ordering would be able to be installed on my machine which doesn't have a previous version of Windows on it and was told "Yes you will be able to install it on your macbook as it’s a full version not an upgrade."

But when I try to active it I get this message...

... boo :(

When you save the ISO to your drive, your get presented with a file explorer, which woul dhav ebeen far easier to do if it was able to be specified right at the beginning of the download. I guess the only possitive is that you could pause it without the downloading stopping.

Like others I still haven't received my key for the WMC, and I have tried it twice. Guess they have a technical problem.
