a big yes for me.

will be selling my MBP to get a hybrid.

iPads never really did it for me, only used it for reading comics, always used laptop for browsing and most other things, so a hybrid would be perfect.

hopefully be able to get a 13" (or 12") hybrid. seen a few that size, ones just rotate the screen and dont actually remove the keyboard, that would be enough for me (as I said only for reading comics), but if i can find one that can remove the keyboard ill get that.

really looking forward to win8 + hybrid, finally coming back to windows after been mac for the last few years (I tend to go with whoever I think is the best at the time, and IMO apple has dropped the ball these last couple of years, windows 8 + wp8 look amazon).

oh and I'd love to develop a tablet app for windows 8 and just remove keyboard to use it, and if i find a bug, just reconnect the keyboard and fix it (debugging would be so easy)

We will be rolling it out shortly at work with the latest visual studio for the devs and will be rolling out server 2012, sql 2012 and GP 2013 solutions soon as well.
Still dislike the new ui, life would be easier with a button for the start screen instead of a stupid zone which seems to have a 4 pixel target and  is hard to find and difficult to click especially in a VM. Keep jumping off it by accident and opening IE. also closing apps is now hit and miss with the drag down to close. Everything just seems that little bit harder to do.

Like the changes in Server though, the good there more than makes up for the bad.

Gonna have to get used to it soon . Will be testing the dev desktop on my machine before rolling it out.

Are you finding this in RTM?

We made the corner easier to click with more pixels that initiate it

Or Windows Key on your keyboard

Yes. While I have no use for the Metro UI yet, the desktop side of things offers enough goodies (e.g. better file copy progress reporting, improved Task Manager) to make the upgrade worth it. I've been running the RTM version in a VM for a few weeks now, and its been working well for me.

As I said on Twitter over the weekend:

After a month or so with Windows 8 I've concluded that it would be my favourite Windows yet - IF I could disable Metro entirely.

Running Win8 Pro RTM from Dreamspark premium.

Absolutely fantastic.

Will not be going back to Win7 or XP etc.

Have had it since it first came out to Dreamspark.
No blue screens, all drivers work just fine.

No crashes apart from medieval 2 total war (TATW - PCP mod)  that mod isnt the most stable, but nothing to do with OS  :P

To what extent can the Metro UI be disabled?

OMG. +1 nomination for bravery or something like that! Will you be keeping a blog on how that is going?

You can't. No official or unofficial way atm. You could look at installing stardock start screen which some have resorted to.

LostBoyNZ: I'd love to have a smaller touch screen to display the start screen. I'd pop it under my main desktop monitor, probably sloped down between the monitor and keyboard. At the moment though there doesn't seem to be such a thing that has multi touch.

A small touchscreen as a secondary display? That would be awesome.

I've been playing with Win8 on and off since the beta, and have been using the RTM version as a semi-permanent OS on a separate HDD.  The beta and CP were (understandably) buggy, but the RTM has been pretty solid.  I think Win8 is fine without standard screens, but it would be much better with a touchscreen.  Hopefully, the release of Win8 might push hardware vendors to expand their range of mainstream touchscreens for home users.

I'm keen to buy an upgrade copy when it comes out, if only to stay on top of "mainstream" tech so I can act knowledgeable when family and friends come to me for "tech support."  Does anyone know if the online copy (~$50) is a downloadable ISO, or does it update within Windows?  I'd be much keener if I could purchase at the discounted rate and download an ISO, burn it to DVD, and then install it at my leisure in a few months once the kinks are worked out and driver support is improved.  My TP-Link wireless adpator seems to crash Win8, so I'm stuck using a cheapo USB wireless adaptor.

why?  I don't understand

you don't want the better battery life, much faster startup and shutdown, much faster WiFi association + all the other improvements etc in Win8

all because your Start Menu now has bigger icons to click on to start apps, and more customizable with Live Tile and other content

You can still launch your apps from the desktop icons or taskbar

Define better

Much faster startup, WiFi association, bitlocker encryption built in and better power savings make it better for me on my laptop without a touch screen.
